Kliff Kingsbury is headed back to the NFL sidelines, this time in Los Angeles, where he’ll join Sean McVay’s offensive staff with the Rams. After a turbulent stint in Washington, Kingsbury finds himself in a much more stable-and potentially revitalizing-environment. Working alongside one of the league’s most respected offensive minds and a proven veteran in Matthew Stafford could be exactly what Kingsbury needs to reset and reestablish his place in the league.
Let’s be honest-his time with the Commanders didn’t exactly end on a high note. There were philosophical differences, particularly with new head coach Dan Quinn, and Kingsbury’s reluctance to adjust his scheme reportedly played a role in the split.
But now, he steps into a situation where innovation is welcomed, and collaboration is the standard. McVay has built a culture in L.A. that’s both demanding and supportive, and Kingsbury could thrive in that dynamic.
And the ripple effects of Kingsbury’s move might not stop at the coaching staff. One name to keep an eye on? Deebo Samuel Sr.
Samuel spent the 2025 season in Washington after being acquired from the 49ers for a fifth-round pick. All things considered, it was a productive year for the veteran wideout, especially given the Commanders' instability.
He brought toughness, versatility, and a reliable presence to a team that desperately needed it. But now, he’s set to hit free agency, and there’s no guarantee he’ll be back in D.C.
There’s certainly a case for the Commanders to re-sign him. He already has chemistry with Jayden Daniels, and he’s still a threat with the ball in his hands.
But it all comes down to price. If Samuel is looking for a significant payday or a new challenge, Washington may let him walk.
That’s where the Rams come in.
L.A. could be a natural landing spot for Samuel, reuniting him with Kingsbury and bringing him back to California. The Rams already have one of the league’s breakout stars in Puka Nacua, and there’s interest in bringing back Davante Adams. But even with that firepower, Samuel’s skill set-his ability to line up all over the field, work underneath, and create after the catch-could be a valuable addition to McVay’s offense.
Of course, the Rams will have to weigh their options. They might prefer to go younger or cheaper, especially with Stafford potentially entering his final season. But if they’re going all-in for one more run, adding a proven, versatile weapon like Samuel makes a lot of sense-especially if he’s willing to take a little less for a shot at a contender.
Kingsbury, for his part, would likely be one of Samuel’s biggest advocates in the building. He spoke highly of the wide receiver throughout the 2025 season, praising his adaptability and consistency during a year plagued by injuries. Samuel was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise rocky campaign for Washington, and Kingsbury knows exactly how to utilize him in a fast-paced, creative scheme.
As for the Commanders, they’re bracing for a pivotal offseason. There’s still confidence in GM Adam Peters to reshape the roster, and while the Kingsbury experiment didn’t pan out, the team is moving forward with a clear direction under Quinn. Whether Samuel fits into that vision remains to be seen.
But one thing’s for sure-Kliff Kingsbury has a fresh start in L.A., and don’t be surprised if a familiar face follows him west.
