The Jacksonville Jaguars are making moves to bolster their backfield, signing running back Chris Rodriguez to a two-year deal. Rodriguez, who just hit the open market after Washington chose not to tender him as a restricted free agent, is set to bring fresh energy to Jacksonville's offense.
At 25, Rodriguez's journey has been anything but conventional. Drafted in the sixth round by the Commanders in 2023 out of Kentucky, he initially inked a four-year, $4 million contract.
Despite a promising start, Washington waived him post-training camp. However, Rodriguez demonstrated resilience, bouncing back onto the practice squad and eventually making his way to the active roster multiple times.
In the 2025 season, Rodriguez made the most of his opportunities. Appearing in 13 games, he rushed for 500 yards on 112 carries, averaging an impressive 4.5 yards per carry, and found the end zone six times. He also contributed in the passing game with three receptions for 30 yards.
Now, with the Jaguars, Rodriguez has a chance to carve out a significant role. His ability to break tackles and find the end zone makes him a valuable asset, and Jacksonville fans have reason to be optimistic about what he can bring to the team. As the Jaguars continue to build their roster, Rodriguez's signing signals a commitment to enhancing their offensive depth and versatility.
