Giants Interview Kliff Kingsbury for Key Role Under New Head Coach

The Giants search for an offensive coordinator has taken a compelling turn with their interview of Kliff Kingsbury, a coach whose past and philosophy could align closely with the teams future under John Harbaugh.

The Giants' search for a new offensive coordinator is heating up, and one name that’s already made his way into the building is Kliff Kingsbury. According to reports, the former Commanders OC interviewed with New York on Saturday as the team looks to round out the staff under new head coach John Harbaugh.

Kingsbury is an intriguing option for a couple of reasons. First, he brings a wealth of experience at both the college and NFL levels.

Second-and perhaps most importantly-he’d be tasked with working directly with franchise quarterback Jaxson Dart. That pairing alone makes this a potential high-upside hire.

Dart is still early in his NFL journey, and bringing in a coach with Kingsbury’s quarterback-centric background could help unlock the next level in his development.

Here’s a look at the current list of candidates for the Giants’ OC job:

  • Todd Monken, current Ravens offensive coordinator (linked to Browns)
  • Willie Taggart, Ravens assistant head coach/running backs coach (requested)
  • Robert Prince, Dolphins wide receivers coach (requested)
  • Jim Bob Cooter, Colts offensive coordinator (interview scheduled)
  • Alex Tanney, Colts pass game coordinator (requested)
  • Kliff Kingsbury, former Commanders offensive coordinator (interviewed)

Kingsbury, 46, has had one of the more winding coaching paths in recent memory. He first made waves as Texas Tech’s head coach from 2013 to 2018. While his 35-40 record doesn’t jump off the page, he did lead the Red Raiders to three bowl games and built a reputation as a forward-thinking offensive mind-especially when it came to quarterback play.

After being let go by Texas Tech, Kingsbury briefly accepted the offensive coordinator job at USC before resigning a month later to pursue NFL opportunities. That decision quickly paid off when the Cardinals brought him in as their head coach.

Over four seasons in Arizona, Kingsbury went 26-33-1 and led the team to one playoff appearance. His tenure had its ups and downs, but his offensive approach-particularly with young quarterbacks-remained a constant talking point.

Following his time in Arizona, Kingsbury returned to USC as the quarterbacks coach before taking over as Washington’s offensive coordinator in 2024. That stint ended earlier this week when the Commanders parted ways with him.

Now, he’s back on the market and firmly in the mix for a key role in New York. If the Giants are looking for a coach with a quarterback-first mindset and a track record of developing talent under center, Kingsbury checks a lot of boxes. His offensive philosophy-built around tempo, spacing, and aggressive play-calling-could be a strong fit for a team hoping to modernize its attack.

There’s still a lot to sort through as the Giants evaluate their options, but Kingsbury’s name is one to watch closely. With a young QB in Jaxson Dart and a new regime in place, the right coordinator could be the difference between a rebuild and a breakout. Stay tuned-this hire could set the tone for the Giants' offense in 2026 and beyond.
