Von Miller’s next stop could be one of the NFL’s most familiar contenders.
The 37-year-old edge rusher is still a free agent after finishing last season as Washington’s sack leader with nine, and he has already made it clear that his one-year run with the Commanders is over. Washington has turned the page at the position, bringing in Odafe Oweh, K’Lavon Chaisson and Charles Omenihu while also using a draft pick on Joshua Josephs.
Miller signed with the Commanders last July just before training camp, but his future now points elsewhere. He has said plenty over the past year about choosing Washington, including the fact that he also could have signed with the Seattle Seahawks, who eventually won the Super Bowl. More recently, Miller said he probably made the wrong decision.
That has opened the door for speculation about where he lands next, and Moe Moton of Bleacher Report recently listed Miller as a fit for the Philadelphia Eagles in a piece highlighting eight moves he wanted to see before training camp.
Philadelphia makes some sense on paper. The Eagles brought in edge-rusher Jonathan Greenard from the Minnesota Vikings, but the other side of the pass rush remains unsettled. Jalyx Hunt showed some promise last season, while Nolan Smith Jr., a first-round pick in 2023, has not delivered the kind of production the Eagles expected, with just 10.5 sacks.
Miller could slide into that mix as a situational weapon, giving Philadelphia another proven rusher who can finish plays off the edge. The fit also comes with a familiar name attached: Miller is open to a second stint with the Denver Broncos, and he might also be willing to play for former Broncos head coach and defensive play-caller Vic Fangio in Philadelphia.
That kind of move would fit the way Howie Roseman has built the Eagles’ front. Philadelphia usually keeps a deep stable of pass rushers, and Miller would not need to carry a heavy workload. He was supposed to have that kind of limited role in Washington last season, but injuries pushed him onto the field more than expected.
If Miller ends up in Philadelphia, Washington won’t lose any sleep over it. The Commanders already made their choice by getting younger and faster at edge rusher, and Miller’s strong season in Washington was enough to help him land back on the market.
For Miller, though, an Eagles deal would mean one more chance at a third Super Bowl ring.
