Dyami Brown is making sure the Commanders can’t overlook him.
With Stefon Diggs now in the mix, Washington’s wide receiver room has only gotten tighter. But while Terry McLaurin and Diggs were both given rest on Day 11 of training camp, Brown took full advantage of the extra reps and, by all accounts, looked like one of the day’s best performers.
That kind of showing matters for a player trying to claw his way into a crowded race. Brown came back to Washington this offseason after a difficult year with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he’s already built something that gives him a real shot: timing with quarterback Jayden Daniels. The two have spent plenty of time together away from the team, and that connection appears to be paying off on the field.
Brown was described as making several strong catches, and his work with Daniels stood out. The confidence is growing, and so is the sense that he’s not treating this as just another camp body fighting for a look. He’s trying to force the issue.
Still, the path is anything but clean.
McLaurin and Diggs sit at the top of the depth chart. Antonio Williams, the third-round rookie, is expected to make the roster, along with Treylon Burks and Luke McCaffrey.
Jaylin Lane also looks tough to cut, especially with his value on special teams. If Washington keeps seven receivers, that only leaves one spot for the rest of the group.
That’s where Brown finds himself in the mix with Van Jefferson Jr. and undrafted rookie Jaden Bradley for what could be the final opening. Preseason could end up deciding it, especially with head coach Dan Quinn looking to get his starters some work while the fringe players are expected to see the bulk of the action.
Jefferson has also made noise in camp, and Bradley has flashed as well. The rookie appears to be a strong practice-squad candidate, which may leave Brown and Jefferson as the veterans really battling for that last seat.
For Brown, the assignment is simple: keep stacking good days. The chemistry with Daniels gives him an edge, but he still has to outplay Jefferson when the games start to count in the warm-up slate.
That’s the challenge in front of him, and it’s a familiar one. Brown has always had the athletic traits.
He’s been a summer standout before. The problem has been carrying that into the regular season.
Outside of his resurgence during the Commanders’ run to the NFC Championship game in 2024, his first stint in Washington didn’t live up to expectations.
Now he’s got another chance, and he can’t afford to repeat the same cycle.
For the moment, though, Brown is doing exactly what he needs to do: showing up, making plays, and refusing to disappear.

The Commanders third padded practice arrived with the group already thinning in a few key spots, and that created room for some of the newer names in camp to keep pushing.
