Dolphins Linked to Deal That Could Shake Up Commanders, Vikings, Seahawks

Dolphins refusal to part with running back De'Von Achane leaves Commanders, Vikings, and Seahawks searching for solutions to their lineup challenges.

Three NFL teams are still on the hunt to bolster their running back rooms this offseason: the Washington Commanders, Minnesota Vikings, and Seattle Seahawks.

Starting with Seattle, the departure of Kenneth Walker in free agency has left a significant void. Zach Charbonnet is currently the closest they have to a starting back, but his readiness for the season opener remains uncertain.

In Washington, the Commanders have shuffled their backfield lineup, but there's no clear frontrunner. With Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Jerome Ford, Rachaad White, and Jeremy McNichols on the roster, the team is still searching for a standout performer.

Turning to Minnesota, the Vikings are banking on a 31-year-old Aaron Jones, who’s coming off a season riddled with injuries. Behind him is Jordan Mason, who offers limited versatility. It's clear the Vikings need to strengthen this position.

The recent Jaylen Waddle trade between the Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos sparked speculation about Miami potentially trading running back De’Von Achane. Such a move would have surely piqued the interest of the Vikings, Commanders, and Seahawks. However, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Miami has no intention of parting with Achane.

Schefter noted, "Sources: Teams that have called the Miami Dolphins to inquire about trading for Pro-Bowl RB De’Von Achane have been told that he is not available."

Miami's decision to retain Achane is understandable. Following the Waddle trade, the Dolphins' offense is looking sparse.

For Malik Willis, stepping in as the starter, this isn't the most supportive environment. Trading Achane would further complicate Willis's debut season.

Moreover, Achane's age makes him a valuable asset for Miami's future plans. At just 24, he fits well into the team's long-term strategy, even amid a multi-year rebuild.

While Waddle's trade seemed improbable until the Broncos made an irresistible offer, a similar scenario could unfold with Achane. While a trade isn't off the table, it would require a substantial proposal to make Miami reconsider.
