Dan Quinn Faces Early Pressure As Commanders Season Starts Sliding

With quarterback Jayden Daniels sidelined and an 0-2 start to the season, all eyes are on Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn as he works to turn things around.

The pressure on Dan Quinn has only grown after a brutal start to the season, and Jayden Daniels’ latest injury has turned up the heat even more.

Washington is 0-2 after road losses to the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys, and the mood around the team has already gone south. Now the Commanders may have to navigate Sunday’s home game against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks without Daniels, who suffered another dislocated elbow in Dallas. It was the second dislocated elbow for the quarterback in a few months, and for a team already searching for answers, that is a crushing blow.

Quinn has taken some of the criticism for his fourth-down call to end the half, the sequence that eventually preceded Daniels going down. That kind of decision invites blame when a franchise player gets hurt, fair or not, and Quinn has found himself at the center of it all. Two games into the year, he already looks worn down by the stretch of bad luck.

Still, the coach is trying to steady the group and shift attention to veteran backup Marcus Mariota, who now has to step into a massive role. Quinn has no choice but to keep moving the operation forward, keep his players engaged, and try to squeeze more competitiveness out of a team that has not shown enough yet.

He has not thrown in the towel, either. Quinn said, "We are not pleased with how things have started, but this is not where we are staying. Over the next 15 games, I think they will be pleased to see some of the outcomes that this group is able to produce."

That optimism is part of why Quinn kept the locker room together last season, but words alone won’t fix this start. The defense has to improve.

The offense has to find a way to function without Daniels. And the Commanders have to do it against a tough stretch that includes Seattle this week and more demanding tests before and after the bye.

There is still a long way to go, with 15 games left, and Quinn is right that early-season misery does not have to define the year. The next two games after Seattle are winnable if Washington cleans up its mistakes and plays better on both sides of the ball.

But the margin for error is disappearing fast. Daniels’ injury is a major setback, yet it cannot become the story of the season by itself. If Quinn can’t get the Commanders off the mat soon, the questions around him will only get louder.

Javon Kinlaw Suddenly Puts Washingtons Defensive Momentum In Doubt

Javon Kinlaw had begun to look like one of the early bright spots on Washingtons defensive front this season, flashing the kind of improvement the Commanders were hoping for when they brought him in on a three-year deal in 2025. His fit has mattered for a defense trying to build momentum, especially after a solid start to the year made the line feel deeper and more disruptive than it had at times before.

Now the picture is less certain after Kinlaw suffered a shoulder injury in Week 2 against Dallas. Dan Quinn said the veteran lineman is likely to be limited in practice, and his status for the next game is still up in the air, leaving Washington to wait on one of the players it had counted on to help stabilize the middle. Commanders Face A Tough Home Opener Without Jayden Daniels

Marcus Mariota will get the call at quarterback for Washington in Sundays Week 3 home game against Seattle, giving the Commanders a very different look as they try to open the home slate without Jayden Daniels. Daniels remains sidelined with a dislocated left elbow, and with no set return timeline yet, the team is still waiting on more clarity after he consults specialists.

Dan Quinn has already made the move official, and it points to an offense built more around quick passes than the dual-threat approach Daniels brings when he is healthy. For Washington, the challenge is not just replacing a starter, but reshaping the entire rhythm of the attack at a point in the season when every early game already carries extra weight. Commanders Face Growing Week 3 Concern Ahead Of Seahawks Game

The Commanders are heading into their Week 3 home game against the Seahawks with a running list of injury concerns, and the picture got a little murkier after several key players showed up on the practice report. Linebacker Frankie Luvu, tight end Chig Okonkwo, guard Sam Cosmi and safety Nick Cross are among the names dealing with injuries or illness, with the team trying to manage both availability and workload as the week moves along.

For Washington, the issue is not just who is on the field, but how many players can get enough practice time to be ready for Seattle. Several other Commanders are still working through various injuries and have been tagged as limited or full participants, leaving the team with more questions than answers as it tries to steady the lineup before Sunday.
