Commanders Treylon Burks Stuns Fans With One-Handed TD Catch After Drought

After nearly three years without a touchdown, Treylon Burks broke his scoring drought in spectacular fashion-then explained the mindset behind his jaw-dropping catch.

The Washington Commanders may have come up just short in a 27-26 overtime loss to the Denver Broncos, but wide receiver Treylon Burks gave fans a moment they won’t soon forget - a one-handed touchdown grab that might just be the catch of the year.

Late in the game, with Washington looking to punch back, Burks lined up wide and ran a fade route to the back corner of the end zone. The ball was placed where only his outstretched arm could reach it - and somehow, he did.

With one hand, Burks plucked the ball out of the air and got both feet down in bounds. It was the kind of play that doesn’t just make the highlight reel - it defines it.

“I had an opportunity to make a play,” Burks said after the game. “I know it’s in me. I saw it all the way.”

That confidence is part of what made Burks such a tantalizing prospect coming out of Arkansas. Drafted 18th overall in 2022, he entered the league with big expectations - the kind of player who could make contested catches look routine and stretch the field with his size-speed combo.

But the early returns never quite matched the hype during his time with the Tennessee Titans. Over two seasons, he totaled just 53 catches for 699 yards and one touchdown.

That lone score came during his rookie year. So when Burks hauled in that jaw-dropping touchdown on Sunday Night Football, it marked his first trip to the end zone in nearly three years. And what a way to break the drought.

Now with the Commanders, Burks has been more of a role player than a focal point. Through limited action, he’s recorded just five catches for 77 yards and that one spectacular touchdown. But plays like the one he made against Denver are a reminder of the raw talent that made him a first-round pick in the first place.

At 3-9, Washington doesn’t have much to lose by giving Burks a bigger slice of the offensive pie. If he can make that kind of grab in tight coverage, maybe it’s time to find out what else he can do with a few more targets. There’s no guarantee it’ll lead to a breakout, but at the very least, it could give the Commanders a better look at whether Burks can be part of their future.

For now, he’s got a catch that fans - and defensive backs - won’t forget anytime soon.
