With Terry McLaurin sidelined, wide receiver moves into sharper focus for the Washington Commanders. The NFL trade deadline arrives Nov. 10, and ESPN has pointed to three possible wideouts who could make sense for Washington.
Jerry Jeudy is one name in the mix, but the fit comes with questions. Cleveland has a crowded receiver room with two rookie pass-catchers producing well, Denzel Boston and KC Concepcion, along with tight end Harold Fannin Jr., who was a rookie in 2025. That has left Jeudy, who is fourth on the Browns in receiving yards, looking like the odd man out.
The Broncos took Jeudy in the first round in 2020, and he was dealt to Cleveland with hopes of becoming the Browns’ top target. That role has changed as the roster around him has grown, which is why he lands as a trade possibility. ESPN gives him a 20 percent chance of being moved and also points to the inconsistency that has followed him through his career:
“Jeudy has the route traits and stop-start speed to separate as a multilevel route runner. He's sudden at the break point.
However, the inconsistent hands have been an issue as a pro (33 career drops), and Jeudy lacks the frame and physicality to win on 50-50 throws. Jeudy had a career-best 1,229 receiving yards in 2024, yet he has just 16 receptions this season.”
Rashod Bateman may be the cleaner target. Baltimore has not featured him much since his Week 2 breakout against the New Orleans Saints, and ESPN identified Washington as the best fit for him. The evaluation reads:
“Bateman fits as a perimeter target with separation speed and ball-tracking ability to win on third-level throws and in-breakers. He can be re-routed, and he isn't a contested-catch specialist, but he fits as a No. 3 target with the ability to play Z or X. Bateman has 16 touchdown receptions in his career.”
The third option is Chris Godwin, but that feels like the toughest path to reality. He is 30 and has dealt with injury problems, and Washington already has two receivers over 30 in McLaurin and Stefon Diggs. The Commanders would likely prefer a younger piece with more runway, especially with their own injury issues piling up this season.

Commanders Rookie Race Just Got More Complicated Behind Sonny Styles
After six games, the Commanders rookie class has given Washington a few different reasons to keep watching. Linebacker Sonny Styles has been the most productive of the group so far, piling up tackles even as his PFF grades have trended down from the early part of the season. Behind him, the rookie cast is starting to look a little more varied, with Antonio Williams flashing late in a recent game and kicker Drew Stevens giving the team some stability in an area that often becomes an issue for first-year players.
Williams role is the one that now feels especially worth tracking as Washington moves deeper into the season. He made a couple of key catches when it mattered most, and the opportunity for a bigger workload is there as the offense reshuffles around a major injury. Stevens has also carved out a notable place in the rookie picture with a run of clean kicking, while offensive lineman Matt Gulbin remains in reserve after making one start and then disappearing from the lineup. Commanders Enter Eagles Rematch With A Growing Receiver Concern
Stefon Diggs was back in full practice as the Commanders began sharpening their plan for a rematch with Philadelphia, a welcome sign for an offense trying to get healthier at the right time. Washington spent the bye week tweaking personnel groupings and defensive coordination, and the staff also brought in Wilks to help with game-planning, another sign this is a team trying to squeeze every edge out of the second meeting.
There is still some uncertainty in the receiver room, though, with Treylon Burks missing practice because of a foot injury and Terry McLaurin still on injured reserve. JerZhan Newtons 21-day practice window is open, but Washington still has to activate him before he can get back on the field, leaving the roster picture fluid as the Commanders wait to see which pieces are ready when the Eagles come back into view. Commanders Have A Real NFC East Opening Sunday Night
A Week 8 matchup on Sunday night has given Washington a real chance to alter the NFC East picture, with the playoff race tightening around a few key outcomes. The Commanders enter the game with their path still very much alive, and the stakes feel especially sharp because the articles broader look at the standings also puts Tampa Bay and Las Vegas into focus as teams trying to steady themselves in the same crowded postseason chase.
What makes this one so compelling is the mix of opportunity and uncertainty on both sidelines. Washingtons chance against Philadelphia comes with injuries shaping the conversation for each team, and the result could matter well beyond one division game because it speaks to how quickly the playoff math can shift in late October. For a Commanders team still trying to carve out its place in the race, Sunday night offers a chance to make the kind of statement that lingers in the standings. [Read more 🡒]
