Commanders: Building for the Future
The Washington Commanders are making waves in free agency, snapping up edge rushers Odafe Oweh and K’Lavon Chaisson, along with tight end Chig Okonkwo. General Manager Adam Peters is focused on building depth, a shift from the short-term contract strategy he previously employed.
Peters is optimistic about the synergy between free agency and the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft, seeing it as a prime opportunity to enhance the team. “This draft and free agency kind of line up with what we’re looking for,” Peters noted. “We’ll have a chance to really get a lot better.”
The strategy is clear: get younger and faster while maintaining a balance of youth and experience. Peters is open to adding veteran players who can contribute positively. “If there’s good players that can help us that are a little older, then certainly consider those guys too,” he added.
Inside sources suggest Washington won’t spend recklessly but will invest in players who fit well with the team’s culture. The foundation laid in 2024 with signings like LB Bobby Wagner, TE Zach Ertz, and RB Austin Ekeler is still a guiding principle.
Cowboys: Kicker Contract Talks
The Dallas Cowboys have placed a second-round tender on kicker Brandon Aubrey, costing them $5.76 million. Aubrey is eager to secure a long-term deal, aspiring to become the league’s highest-paid kicker.
“Obviously, Dallas is my home. I’d like to keep it that way,” Aubrey expressed.
He acknowledges the Cowboys have other contracts to prioritize before addressing his situation. “There’s a lot of moving parts with the Cowboys at the moment,” Aubrey explained, understanding that unrestricted players take precedence.
With K Ka’imi Fairbairn signing a record deal, Aubrey is encouraged by the rising market for kickers. “Anytime the market goes up as a whole, every kicker makes money,” he said.
Eagles: Jaire Alexander Trade Drama
The Eagles are facing uncertainty with the acquisition of CB Jaire Alexander from the Ravens, who retired just 10 days post-trade. Notably, Philadelphia hasn’t listed Alexander on their transactions page, unlike Baltimore and the NFL.
There’s speculation that the Eagles might seek to rescind the trade, feeling they have grounds to do so. The situation remains fluid, and all eyes are on how Philadelphia navigates this unexpected turn of events.
