Commanders Still Have One O-Line Question Jayden Daniels Cannot Afford

Could Center Ethan Pocic's next play be the key to strengthening the Giants' offensive line?

For teams still searching for stability at center, Ethan Pocic suddenly looks like one of the more interesting names on the market.

The former Cleveland Browns starter missed the back half of 2025 after tearing his Achilles, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Pocic is back in the clear and ready to go for training camp.

“Browns starting center Ethan Pocic, who tore his Achilles last December, recently was cleared by Dr. Norman Waldrop to participate in training camp. Pocic is a free agent, and is said by a source to be ‘full go,'” Schefter wrote.

That matters because Pocic brings a real body of work with him. He has started 97 of the 114 games he’s played in his career, and he held down the Browns’ center spot for the last four seasons.

Even with the injury-shortened 2025 campaign, he still logged 518 pass-blocking snaps, allowed two sacks and 14 pressures, and finished with Pro Football Focus grades of 63.2 in run blocking and 62.2 in pass blocking. Among centers, that placed him 23rd and 25th, respectively.

With that in mind, three teams stand out as logical fits.

The Washington Commanders made a bold move this offseason by cutting Tyler Biadasz, and that decision left the middle of their line unsettled. Right now, the competition is between veteran Nick Allegretti and sixth-round rookie Matt Gulbin, which is hardly the kind of setup that screams certainty.

Zach Selby of the team’s official website said Allegretti “has the inside track” to the job, but that doesn’t make him a lock. His PFF blocking grades were below 50 in 2025, and most of his background is at guard, not center.

Washington needs someone who can bring more than just warm bodies to the battle, especially with Jayden Daniels behind the line. Pocic would do that, and then some.

Baltimore is in a similar spot, only the urgency feels even sharper. The Ravens lost Tyler Linderbaum to a record-breaking deal from the Las Vegas Raiders and haven’t added a true replacement.

As things stand, they’re projected to start Corey Bullock, a 2024 undrafted free-agent signing who has just 13 career offensive snaps. For a team trying to win now and keep Lamar Jackson protected, that’s a shaky bet.

Pocic would give Baltimore the veteran answer it doesn’t currently have.

The New York Giants also belong in the conversation. There were rumors they had interest in Linderbaum before he signed with the Raiders, which suggests they weren’t fully sold on John Michael Schmitz.

Schmitz has dealt with health problems, and his play hasn’t exactly quieted the questions either. He posted PFF grades of 60.9 in pass blocking and 63.3 in run blocking, ranking 28th and 22nd among centers.

Bringing in Pocic would give the Giants real competition at the spot, and if Schmitz gets hurt again, Pocic would be a strong fallback option.

Commanders Fans May Finally Get Their Answer On One Veteran Rumor

The Commanders have spent the offseason with their receiver plans under a microscope, and the latest buzz has centered on whether Washington might add another established name to the room. ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler reported the team was discussed in connection with Keenan Allen, but the broader picture around general manager Adam Peters suggests a shift in philosophy after last seasons veteran-heavy approach did not produce the desired results.

Stefon Diggs has also made clear he would welcome a move to Washington, which has only added to the speculation around what the Commanders might do next at the position. For now, though, the front office appears to be leaning toward a different kind of roster build, leaving fans to wait on whether the veteran receiver chatter turns into something more concrete. Brandon Aiyuk Just Put Washington In A Really Uncomfortable Spot

Brandon Aiyuks latest online run-in has kept his name attached to Washington in a way the Commanders probably never wanted. The former 49ers receiver has been a topic of conversation well beyond the field, and the chatter has only grown after his recent trolling of Jayden Daniels, a move that has people around the league talking about where this all goes next.

For Washington, the uncomfortable part is that Aiyuk had already become linked to the franchise as a possible destination if his situation in San Francisco ever broke open. Now that possibility looks far murkier, with former players publicly questioning both his future in the league and whether the issue has drifted into something bigger than football. The Commanders are left watching a story that once seemed about roster movement turn into something far more complicated. [Read more 🡒]

Commanders Suddenly Have A Real Answer To Their Biggest O-Line Risk

The Commanders center situation has been one of the quieter but more important questions on the roster since they released Tyler Biadasz, leaving Nick Allegretti to handle the starting job with rookie Matt Gulbin behind him. It is the kind of depth chart arrangement that can work in the short term, but it also leaves little margin for error if injuries or inconsistency show up in the middle of the line.

ESPNs Adam Schefter reported that Ethan Pocic is back to football activities and ready for another opportunity, which gives Washington a veteran option to think about if it wants more stability at the position. For the Commanders, the appeal is less about making a splash and more about strengthening a spot where competition and insurance matter, especially if they want to keep the interior of the line from becoming a weekly concern.
