In a move that adds depth to their backfield, the Washington Commanders are bringing back running back Jeremy McNichols on a one-year deal. McNichols, now 30, has had quite the journey since being drafted by the Buccaneers in the fifth round back in 2017. After signing a four-year contract with Tampa Bay, he was released before the regular season began.
Since then, McNichols has been something of a journeyman, spending time with the 49ers, Colts, Broncos, and Titans. His stint with the Jaguars last year saw him promoted from the practice squad to the active roster, showcasing his resilience and determination to stay in the league.
The Titans brought McNichols back in 2020, where he bounced between the practice squad and active roster. A brief stop with the Falcons in 2023 led him back to the 49ers, where he continued to fight for his spot.
McNichols joined the Commanders in 2024 on a one-year contract and proved his worth by re-signing for the 2025 season. Last year, he appeared in all 17 games, rushing for 221 yards on 44 carries, averaging an impressive 5.0 yards per carry. He also contributed in the passing game with 25 receptions for 196 yards and a touchdown.
His return to the Commanders this season adds a reliable option to their running game, and fans will be eager to see if he can build on last year's solid performance.
