With training camp just two weeks away, the Commanders’ receiver hunt is starting to come into focus - and Keenan Allen has now entered the conversation.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler both weighed in this week on Washington’s search for help at wideout, with Brandon Aiyuk and Stefon Diggs drawing the most attention. Schefter said Tuesday on his podcast that Aiyuk may have posted his way out of Washington’s orbit and opened the door for Diggs, who played at Maryland, to land there instead.
"We talked about Washington and Brandon Aiyuk, and most people thought Aiyuk would go there," Schefter said Tuesday on his podcast. "And it may turn out to be that Brandon Aiyuk's social media posts created an opening for Stefon Diggs, who played at Maryland, to go back to that area, take the spot that Brandon Aiyuk might've had."
Fowler, appearing on the " Sports Junkies" on Tuesday, added another name to the mix. He said Washington has been searching for a receiver, though the exact target has been tough to pin down.
"Washington has been on the radar for a receiver; it's been hard to identify which one," Fowler said.
After mentioning Diggs and Aiyuk, Fowler revisited a name he’s brought up before: Keenan Allen. He said the Commanders had been tied to Allen a bit over the past few weeks, but also made clear that nothing appears close.
"I've heard Washington implicated to Keenan Allen a little bit over the last few weeks, but it sounds like nothing is going on there."
Allen’s résumé is hard to ignore. The 34-year-old has played 13 NFL seasons, caught 1,055 passes, scored 70 touchdowns and made six Pro Bowls. He also stayed on the field last year, appearing in all 17 games and finishing with 81 catches for 777 yards and four touchdowns.
Still, the fit is the issue. Allen has never been a burner, and his game is built around route running rather than speed.
That matters because Fowler said Washington is looking for a speed guy, and Allen doesn’t really check that box. The Commanders can already use rookie Antonio Williams and Luke McCaffrey in the slot, which makes Allen a less obvious answer.
If Washington wanted another slot receiver, the question becomes why not just bring Deebo Samuel back?
General manager Adam Peters does not have to force anything right now. Diggs could sign elsewhere before camp opens, and Washington could then wait until final cuts or explore a trade for a receiver later on.
Another name that has come up is Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, who is reportedly available after New England added A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs this offseason.
Allen could still help a team. He just may not be the piece Washington is actually looking for.

Commanders Backfield Crunch Could Force Adam Peters Into An Early Move
The Commanders entered the summer with a backfield that suddenly looks crowded, and Jerome Ford is part of the reason why. After the offseason additions, Washington has more running backs than obvious roster spots, which has turned training camp into an early sorting exercise for Adam Peters and the front office. Ford was brought in as part of that mix, but he is now sitting low enough on the depth chart that his name has already started surfacing in trade chatter.
That kind of surplus usually forces a team to make a choice before final cuts, whether it means moving a player, keeping him as insurance, or risking a release. Washington also has other backs competing for the same limited room, so the next few weeks could reveal whether the Commanders see Ford as a useful depth piece or as an asset they can turn into something else before the roster gets trimmed. What New Coordinator Sees In Jayden Daniels Should Matter To Commanders Fans
Jayden Daniels enters the 2026 season with a different kind of pressure on his shoulders, and David Blough thinks that matters. Washingtons offensive coordinator said Daniels was frustrated with how 2025 unfolded after the high standard he set the year before, but also made it clear the quarterback has not been dwelling on it. Instead, Daniels has leaned into the new offensive system and the fresh concepts that come with it, a sign the Commanders are hoping his next step comes as much from mindset as talent.
Bloughs read on Daniels is the part Washington fans will want to keep an eye on, because the transition is not just about terminology or play design. The offense is expected to look different this year, and Daniels appears to be adapting well to what the staff is asking of him. If that progress holds, the Commanders could be looking at a quarterback who is not only motivated to answer for last season, but also positioned to do it in a scheme that fits him better. Commanders Fans Already Feared How This Tyler Biadasz Move Could Age
Tyler Biadaszs exit from Washington was always going to be one of those moves judged in real time, and the early returns from Los Angeles are the sort that make a decision age quickly. After being released by the Commanders, Biadasz landed with the Chargers and has reportedly settled in well, drawing positive reviews from the coaching staff during early offseason workouts as he gets acclimated to a new system.
For Washington, the center spot now shifts to Nick Allegretti and rookie Matt Gulbin, a combination that puts the focus squarely on how the line holds up without the veteran presence Biadasz provided. If he keeps trending up with the Chargers, the conversation around the Commanders choice to move on from him is only going to get louder, especially with the position still in the middle of its own reset.
