The Commanders’ search for receiver help has already narrowed, and Tyreek Hill now looks like a name Washington can move past.
For weeks, Brandon Aiyuk looked like the obvious target. That option now appears to be off the board for multiple reasons.
Stefon Diggs is still out there, though his availability may not last much longer. Deebo Samuel, a player the Commanders know well, is also still on the market.
Hill, though, was the biggest name left. The 32-year-old has been floated as a possible short-term fit for Washington, but it’s unclear whether the Commanders ever had real interest. If they didn’t, his latest injury update could be part of the reason.
“So it's about 10 months after doing two surgeries,” Hill said on social media, via John Breech of CBS Sports. “My left leg is the one that I injured. I have no power in my left leg at all, so I'm trying to regain all the power back in my left leg, but it's one day at a time.”
Hill hurt his left knee last September. Reports said he suffered multiple torn ligaments, including an ACL, and also dislocated his kneecap. At a point where he’s still talking about having no power in that leg 10 months later, the concern is obvious - especially for a player whose game has always been built on speed.
Even before the injury, Hill was showing signs of decline in 2024. So whether Washington ever seriously considered him or not, his health makes the answer feel simple now: he’s not the veteran receiver the Commanders should be chasing before Week 1.
