Week 3 is bringing more than just matchups to the NFL schedule - it’s bringing weather that could shape games in a hurry.
The biggest headache on the board comes from the nor’easter conditions expected to hit the NFC East. The New York Giants and Washington Commanders are both set to play at home on Sunday, Sept. 27, and both games could get ugly fast.
The Giants’ meeting with the Tennessee Titans at MetLife Stadium is forecast to feature heavy rain, wind and gusts topping 30 mph. The Commanders’ game against the Seattle Seahawks at Northwest Stadium carries the same warning: heavy rain, strong winds and 30-plus mph gusts.
That kind of setup can make life difficult for any passing game, including the one involving Sam Darnold and the three other quarterbacks in those games.
Another spotlight game comes in a very different setting. Fans will be watching Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys in the first NFL game played in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where Dallas faces Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. Field conditions are the bigger concern there, with Weather.com projecting mostly sunny skies, a 25 percent chance of rain and 74 degrees at kickoff at Maracanã Stadium.
Elsewhere, a few spots should play cleanly. The New York Jets and Detroit Lions will meet indoors at Ford Field, while the Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints are set for climate-controlled conditions inside the Caesars Superdome. The Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts will also be at Lucas Oil Stadium, where sunny conditions are expected and the roof will likely be open.
