The Commanders aren’t shutting the door on help at wide receiver, and GM Adam Peters didn’t sound like someone ready to declare the room finished.
Asked about the group, Peters pointed to the players already in place while leaving room for more movement if the right opportunity comes along. As John Keim posted on X, Peters said: “Really happy who's in that room… happy how guys progressed in the offseason and stepped up….If ways to get better we'll look into that; assess the decision if it's the right move… Not afraid to do that.”
That leaves the Stefon Diggs and Brandon Aiyuk chatter hanging out there, even if nothing appears imminent. The Commanders have been linked to outside options, but Peters’ comments suggest the front office is still weighing whether a move actually makes sense.
Not everyone thinks Washington should chase a veteran name just for the sake of it. On the Kevin Sheehan Show via commanderswire.com, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler argued against simply adding an older receiver to a young roster.
“It's tough, you have a fairly young roster, so you don't want to just get 30-year-old retreads,” said ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler. “I do think, in the next week, some of their plans will crystallize, because they have to.”
Fowler also floated a few other possibilities if the Commanders decide to keep looking.
“I still think Keenan Allen could be a viable option… Tyreek Hill's not close to playing right now, but he will be ready at some point,” Fowler said.
For now, Terry McLaurin remains the top target in the room. Behind him, rookie Antonio Williams and third-year receiver Luke McCaffrey are part of the mix, with Williams having moved up to the WR2 spot on the ESPN depth chart.
There are also a few names trying to force their way into the conversation. Treylon Burks, Dyami Brown, and Jaylin Lane are on the second team and could still make some noise this season, while Van Jefferson, Jacoby Jones, Nick Nash, Chris Hilton Jr., and undrafted free agent Jaden Bradley are listed as longshots to make the 53-man roster.
