The Washington Commanders are in dire need of a boost at edge rusher. With the 2026 NFL Draft and free agency on the horizon, expect Washington to dive headfirst into the pass-rush market.
At the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, draft prospects showcased their skills, and the Commanders were busy meeting potential picks. Holding the No. 7 overall selection, Washington has shown interest in several top talents, including Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles, Miami edge Rueben Bain Jr., Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, and Texas Tech edge David Bailey.
Each of these prospects is a contender for the Commanders' seventh pick, with Bailey standing out as a frequent mention in mock drafts. The All-American from Texas Tech racked up an impressive 12.5 sacks last season, making him a prime target for Washington.
Bailey, when interviewed by Donna Hopkins, expressed his enthusiasm about the possibility of joining the Commanders. "Yeah, I've talked to them and I'm willing to do anything for them," Bailey said, grinning. "Pass rusher, special teams, anything, I'm just going to be grateful for the opportunities."
With Daronte Jones stepping in as the new defensive coordinator, the Commanders are expected to adopt a scheme similar to Brian Flores' with the Vikings, emphasizing versatile edge defenders. This approach aligns perfectly with Bailey's skill set.
Landing Bailey would likely thrill Washington fans, assuming he’s still available at their pick.
