Commanders Eye Ohio State Star for 2026 Draft at No. 7

Commanders aim to strengthen their defense with Ohio State's versatile linebacker in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Washington Commanders are gearing up to make a splash in the 2026 NFL Draft, holding the No. 7 overall pick. With a wealth of talent available, particularly from Ohio State, the Commanders have a golden opportunity to bolster their roster with a future star.

Ohio State is well-represented at the top of this draft, and the Commanders might just snag one of their standout players. ESPN's draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. has projected the Commanders to select Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles in his latest mock draft.

Before Styles, fellow Buckeyes Arvell Reese and Caleb Downs are expected to go at No. 3 and No. 5, with Carnell Tate also in the mix right after Styles.

Kiper praises Styles as a versatile, athletic linebacker, a much-needed asset for Washington. Last season, the Commanders struggled defensively, and with linebacker Bobby Wagner likely departing in free agency, adding Styles makes strategic sense.

Teaming him up with Frankie Luvu and new addition Leo Chenal could revitalize the defense. Styles, known for his explosive play, showcased his athleticism with a jaw-dropping 43½-inch vertical jump at the combine, hinting at his potential impact.

While a receiver like Ohio State's Carnell Tate could also be an option to complement star wideout Terry McLaurin, Styles' defensive prowess might be too enticing to pass up.

There's been chatter about the Commanders considering RB Jeremiyah Love if available, but Kiper's mock sends Love to the Titans at No. 4.

Landing Styles would be a strong move for Washington, positioning him as a cornerstone of their defense for years to come.
