The trade deadline chatter is picking up, and the NFC East is right in the middle of it. Around the division, the names bouncing around range from big-ticket skill players to defensive linemen, but not every rumor sounds like it has real traction.
In Washington, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said Commanders cornerback Mike Sainristil has surfaced as a trade candidate this week, though Fowler would be a little surprised if the team actually moved him. The Commanders have also checked into receiver help ahead of the deadline, but ESPN’s Dan Graziano wrote they are unlikely to pursue 49ers wideout Brandon Aiyuk, who may finally be available this week. Graziano said Aiyuk likely burned bridges with Washington and quarterback Jayden Daniels with his social media antics this summer.
Dallas, meanwhile, does not sound like a team in sell mode. ESPN’s Ian Rapoport said he would be “beyond stunned” if the Cowboys traded wide receiver George Pickens, even though his name has come up in deadline speculation.
Jeremy Fowler added that the Cowboys are incredibly unlikely to move off pieces before the deadline because they remain in striking distance of winning the NFC East. If Dallas does make a move, Fowler said it would be more likely to involve ancillary pieces such as No. 3 tight end Luke Schoonmaker.
The Eagles are drawing their own share of attention. Fowler said he’s heard Philadelphia is inclined to keep defensive tackle Moro Ojomo and potentially extend him, even though the Jaguars have shown strong interest in a trade.
Fowler also said a source told him a rebuild is not in the Eagles’ organizational DNA, but the team will take advantage of value if it comes up before the deadline. His sense is Philadelphia will make a deal or two.
The most likely names to move remain cornerback Riq Woolen, wide receiver Marquise Brown and tight end Dallas Goedert.
In New York, the Giants have already made a run at the running back market. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported that the Giants have made an offer to the Colts for Jonathan Taylor.
The belief is Indianapolis wants a first-round pick, though it might accept a package built around a second-round pick and additional assets. Raanan said the Giants have not bridged that gap yet and he is not sure they want to pay the price.
Raanan also said he does not think the Titans or Jets would move running backs Tony Pollard or Breece Hall, respectively, and believes it is more likely the Giants end up landing a defensive tackle instead. Giants Nation’s Bobby Skinner added that the Giants made a contract offer to cornerback Deonte Banks with the same structure as the one they gave Greg Newsome, just at a slightly smaller average than Newsome’s three-year, max $46 million deal.
One more defensive name has entered the Giants’ orbit. According to Fowler, Buccaneers defensive tackle Vita Vea is on New York’s radar, though Tampa Bay is not expected to trade him.

Jayden Daniels Showed Washington Something Fans Will Love
Jayden Daniels spent part of Sunday night showing the kind of edge Washington wants from its quarterback, even before the Commanders settled into their comeback against an early deficit. After the offense stumbled out of the gate, Daniels was visibly frustrated on the sideline, a reaction that fit the urgency of a game the Commanders eventually turned into a 27-10 win.
Dan Quinn later praised Daniels for what he brought to the moment beyond his play, pointing to the rookie's leadership in dealing with the team's sluggish start. For Washington, it was another reminder that Daniels is not just trying to run the offense, but to set a tone when things go sideways, which is exactly the sort of presence a team can build around. Commanders Win Just Turned Washington Into A Much Bigger Debate
A 27-10 win over the Eagles should have settled at least a few questions around Washington, but instead it opened up a fresh round of debate. The Commanders scored 27 unanswered points in Week 9, a result that pushed them to 2-4-1 and sent the national power rankings into motion, with most outlets nudging them upward after the upset.
The reactions were hardly uniform, though, which is part of what makes this team so hard to pin down right now. Different media outlets came away with different takes on what the win means for Washingtons place in the NFC, and the split in those rankings says as much about the Commanders uncertainty as it does about the quality of the victory itself. Daron Payne Just Became A Much Bigger Commanders Dilemma
Daron Paynes season is over after a fractured foot required surgery, a blow that lands hard for a Commanders defense already trying to sort out its long-term shape. The injury alone would have been enough to reshape Washingtons plans, but it now comes with an even bigger layer of uncertainty around one of the teams most established defensive linemen.
Before the injury, there were reports that general manager Adam Peters had been in discussions about a possible deal involving Payne and the New York Giants, a sign that Washington was at least willing to explore its options. The Commanders have not moved him yet, and they have not released him either, which leaves Payne in a strange spot as the offseason picture starts to come into focus. [Read more 🡒]
