T.J. Oshie is heading back to the Olympics - this time, with a headset instead of a stick.
The longtime Washington Capitals forward and 2014 Team USA hero will be joining NBC’s broadcast team for the men’s ice hockey tournament at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Games. And if his Olympic past is any indication, he’s more than ready for the moment.
Oshie carved out a permanent place in American hockey lore during the 2014 Sochi Games, when he went four-for-six in the shootout - including the game-winner - to lift Team USA to a dramatic 3-2 win over host nation Russia. That performance didn’t just electrify fans back home; it also earned the U.S. a bye into the quarterfinals. While the Americans ultimately finished fourth that year, Oshie’s clutch showing became an instant classic.
Fast forward to 2026, and Oshie is stepping into a new role following his retirement from the NHL in June 2025. After 16 seasons - including a Stanley Cup run with the Capitals in 2018 - he’s bringing his on-ice experience to the broadcast booth, joining Anson Carter and Saroya Tinker as part of NBC’s Olympic hockey coverage.
For Oshie, it’s not just about calling the game - it’s about elevating it.
“What I’ll try to do next week for the Olympics is really just show people how good these players really are,” Oshie said in an interview ahead of the tournament. “There’s a lot of prep and everything that goes into the stats and all that.
But I feel like anyone can really read stats. What I think I can bring to the table is showing the viewers why and how things are happening - and bring out just a real positivity.
Just show how good these players are, how elite they are, how much skill they have, how much sacrifice they make for their teams.”
That perspective - from someone who’s been in the trenches of Olympic hockey and lifted the Stanley Cup - adds a layer of insight that fans can’t get from numbers alone. Oshie knows the grind, the pressure, and the pride that come with wearing the red, white and blue on the world stage.
And this year’s Team USA squad? It’s loaded.
The roster features some of the biggest names in the NHL today: Jack Eichel, Auston Matthews, Clayton Keller, and Tage Thompson headline a group that’s as skilled as it is hungry. The initial roster, announced back in June, also includes Brady and Matthew Tkachuk - a pair of brothers who bring grit and scoring touch - along with top-tier defensemen Quinn Hughes and Charlie McAvoy.
This tournament also marks a major return for international hockey: NHL players are back in the Olympic mix for the first time since 2014. That’s 12 years of waiting, and the anticipation is real - especially for a U.S. team that hasn’t won gold since the “Miracle on Ice” in 1980. Their most recent medal was silver in 2010.
The Americans open their tournament on February 12 against Latvia, and all eyes will be on how this star-studded roster comes together on Olympic ice. With the NHL’s best back in the fold, the level of play is expected to be sky-high - and Oshie will be right there to break it all down for fans watching at home.
Washington Capitals fans will have a few extra reasons to tune in, too. Goaltender Logan Thompson and forward Tom Wilson are suiting up for Team Canada, while defenseman Martin Fehervary will represent Slovakia.
As for Oshie, he’s stepping into his next chapter with the same passion he brought to the ice. And if his goal is to help viewers appreciate the beauty and intensity of Olympic hockey, there’s no better guide than someone who’s lived it - and delivered in its biggest moments.
