Electronic Arts keeps rolling out its NHL 27 ratings, and the Washington Capitals have gotten a notable boost in two key spots: in goal and on the blue line.
Logan Thompson is the headliner. He jumped from an 86 overall to a 90, which puts him No. 5 among all goalies in the game and makes him the highest-rated player on the Capitals roster. His speed is listed as his top attribute at 93, and he checks in as the 47th highest-rated player overall.
The rating makes sense after what Thompson did last season. The 28-year-old finished tied with Andrei Vasilevskiy for first in save percentage at .912 among goalies who played at least 46 games. He also piled up 31 wins, which ranked fifth in the NHL, while stopping 1,447 shots, the third-most in the league, on 1,587 shots faced, also third-most league-wide.
Jakob Chychrun also got a bump, moving from an 87 overall to an 89. Even with a career year behind him and the most goals among defensemen in 2025-26, he still does not crack the top 10 among left-handed defensemen. He sits 12th, behind Ottawa Senators defenseman Jake Sanderson.
Chychrun, 28, put together a career-best 26 goals and 34 assists for 60 points in 80 games. He also took on more responsibility after the John Carlson trade, and he is expected to have an even larger role this season while working with Cole Hutson to add more offense from the back end.
Behind Chychrun on Washington’s defense, Martin Fehervary is next at 86 overall, the same mark he had last year. Rasmus Sandin comes in at 85, and Matt Roy is rated 84.
The defensive ratings arrived a day after the league’s forward rankings were released. In that group, Alex Ovechkin dropped to an 89 overall, while Tom Wilson and Alex Tuch are next at 88.
