Wake Forest Hits A Stretch Where Theres Little Room To Slip

Wake Forest prepares for their debut clash against Merrimack, as both teams set sights on shaking up the ACC Network stage.

Wake Forest now knows exactly when its meeting with Merrimack will kick off.

The ACC announced Week 10 start times, and the Deacons will host the Warriors on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 3:30 p.m. ET at Allegacy Financial Stadium. The game will air on ACC Network.

It will be the first matchup ever between the two programs. Wake Forest is one of the ACC’s top teams, while Merrimack enters looking for a major upset and a shot at added national attention.

Merrimack, an independent FCS program, came into the season hoping to prove it could hang around without a conference. That test came quickly against Rhode Island, and the Rams rolled to a 34-7 win over the Warriors.

The Warriors have also seen several other strong FCS opponents, including No. 1-ranked Tarleton State, and the results have not shown they can consistently beat top teams. Still, they are coming off a home win over New Hampshire and will try to keep building momentum when they play Wagner on Halloween.

Wake Forest has its own business to handle before Merrimack arrives. The Deacons play Virginia this weekend at Allegacy Financial Stadium, and that game should provide a stiff test before the matchup with the Warriors the following week.

The schedule ahead gets even sharper after that. Wake Forest’s next big challenge comes Nov. 14, when it travels to Dallas to face No.

22 SMU. The Deacons also still have games at Georgia Tech on Nov. 21 and against Duke on Nov. 28, both listed as TBA.

Wake Forest’s slate now reads: Sept. 3 vs.

Akron (W, 38-16)
Sept. 12 at Purdue (W, 38-36, 2OT)

Sept. 18 vs. No.

5 Miami (L, 33-20)
Sept. 26 at No.

16 Louisville (W, 30-27)
Oct. 3 vs.

Stanford (W, 57-3)
Oct. 10 at NC State (W, 38-14)

Oct. 17 at Cal (W, 41-7)
Oct. 31 vs.

Virginia, 3:45 p.m. ET on ESPN or ESPN2

Nov. 7 vs. Merrimack, 3:30 p.m.

ET on ACC Network
Nov. 14 at No.

22 SMU, TBA
Nov. 21 at Georgia Tech, TBA

Nov. 28 vs. Duke, TBA

Wake Forest Gets Another Chance To Prove This Start Is Real

Wake Forest heads into its ACC date with Virginia carrying the kind of attention that comes with a No. 14 ranking, and this one feels like another chance to show the early momentum is more than a hot opening stretch. The Demon Deacons have looked sharp enough to start drawing real belief, and the home setting only adds to the sense that this is a game where they can reinforce their place in the league picture.

Gio Lopez has been a big reason for that, giving Wake Forest steady play at quarterback and helping the offense stay on schedule. Virginia comes in with road issues hanging over it, which makes this matchup a useful measuring stick for the Demon Deacons, even if the broader takeaway may still be about how convincingly they handle it rather than simply whether they win. Wake Forest's Playoff Buzz Now Comes With One Huge Catch

Wake Forests rise into the national conversation has been one of the seasons more surprising developments, with the Demon Deacons sitting at 6-1 and ranked No. 14 in the AP poll. At this point, they are not just being talked about as an ACC success story, but as a possible College Football Playoff contender, a position that would have seemed far-fetched before the season.

ESPNs latest bowl projections show just how wide the range still is for this team, with analysts landing on very different postseason paths. Everything now hinges on how Wake Forest handles the stretch run, especially the remaining games and the ACC championship, which will ultimately decide whether this buzz turns into a playoff berth or something much more conventional.
