Wake Forest Hit With Early Transfer Portal Loss

Wake Forest's Marqus Marion eyes new opportunities as he plans to enter the transfer portal, sparking a fresh start for both player and team.

In a significant move for Wake Forest's roster strategy, forward Marqus Marion is set to enter the transfer portal when it opens on April 7th. This decision marks the first step in the team's rebuilding efforts.

Marion, originally from Skovlunde, Denmark, joined Wake Forest over Boston College for the 2023-24 season. During his initial year, he appeared in 21 games, posting averages of 1.1 points and 2 rebounds per game. He started strong as a rotational forward but saw his minutes decrease with the return of Damari Monsanto from injury.

In the subsequent year, Marion and the coaching staff agreed on a redshirt season. The plan was to allow him a year focused on development, with the hope that he would emerge as a more impactful player.

Fast forward to the 2025-26 season, Marion played in 20 games, improving slightly with averages of 1.4 points and 2.1 rebounds. He enjoyed more significant playing time in the early part of the season, logging double-digit minutes in eight of his first nine games.

However, as conference play began, his minutes dwindled. Just as he was beginning to see increased action, including a notable 19-minute stint against Clemson, his season was abruptly cut short due to a fractured sternum sustained on February 25th at Boston College.

As Marion looks to the future, he will have two years of eligibility left at his next destination, offering him ample opportunity to develop and make an impact.
