West Virginia just landed a key piece for its secondary - and it comes in the form of one of the top junior college defensive backs in the country.
Tim Roberson, a 6-foot, 175-pound corner out of Iowa Western Community College, has officially committed to the Mountaineers. He’ll join the program after the spring semester, bringing with him a resume that’s hard to ignore and a skill set that could make an immediate impact in Morgantown.
Roberson’s journey to WVU has been anything but linear. He originally committed to USF just ahead of signing day but reopened his recruitment in early January after spring enrollment didn’t pan out. Liberty University briefly became his next stop, but that commitment was short-lived - and not long after, West Virginia entered the picture with an offer that clearly changed the game.
The Mountaineers are getting a player who’s proven he can produce at a high level. Roberson earned All-Conference and All-American honors during a standout 2025 season at Iowa Western, where he led the team with six interceptions. Add in three more pass breakups and 33 tackles across 13 games, and you’ve got a corner who knows how to find the football and isn’t afraid to get physical in run support.
Rated as the No. 8 junior college cornerback in the country by 247Sports, Roberson carries a three-star, 85-grade ranking - a strong endorsement of his potential at the next level. His path began at Troy, where he signed out of high school and redshirted his freshman year before transferring to the JUCO ranks. That detour may have delayed his D1 debut, but it also gave him time to develop, sharpen his instincts, and prove he can be a difference-maker on the field.
For West Virginia, this is a smart pickup - a plug-and-play defensive back with ball skills, experience, and the kind of upside that could help solidify the back end of the defense. And for Roberson, it’s a fresh start with a Power Five program that’s giving him the opportunity to showcase his talent on a bigger stage.
