Virginia Tech Lands Penn State Cornerback in Bold Transfer Move

Virginia Tech continues to reshape its secondary with the addition of a promising Penn State transfer who brings Power 4 experience and depth to a key defensive role.

After a whirlwind weekend that saw Virginia Tech haul in eight commitments-and another on Monday-Wednesday brought more movement, this time from the transfer portal. Head coach James Franklin added another familiar face to the mix, securing a commitment from former Penn State cornerback Kenny Woseley Jr.

Woseley, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound defensive back out of Philadelphia’s Imhotep Institute Charter High School, brings both pedigree and potential to the Hokies’ secondary. A 3-star prospect in the 2024 class, Woseley redshirted his freshman season before seeing the field in 2025. He appeared in all 13 games for the Nittany Lions, registering 10 tackles and one pass defensed, while earning a start and logging valuable reps at nickel corner.

That nickel role is likely where Woseley will slot in at Virginia Tech, a position that’s already seen strong play from Isaiah Brown-Murray, who returns for the 2026 season. But adding Woseley isn’t just about depth-it’s about versatility and competition in a defensive backfield that’s clearly a priority for Franklin.

Woseley had no shortage of Power 4 interest once he entered the portal, but all signs pointed to a reunion with Franklin in Blacksburg. It’s a move that makes sense on multiple levels. Woseley knows the system, has experience at a high level, and brings a physical edge to the slot corner spot-a critical piece in today’s pass-heavy college game.

And he’s not alone. Woseley becomes the 11th former Penn State player to transfer to Virginia Tech since the portal opened on January 2.

That’s not a coincidence. Franklin is clearly building something familiar in a new setting, and he’s doing it with players who already understand his expectations and culture.

The Hokies have been aggressive this offseason, and it’s paying off. Along with a top-25 recruiting class, Franklin has pulled together what currently ranks as the No. 3 transfer class in the country, according to On3. That’s not just a stat-it’s a statement.

Virginia Tech isn’t just reloading. They’re reshaping the roster with purpose, and Woseley is the latest piece of that puzzle.
