With fall camp approaching, Virginia Tech’s recruiting picture is already mostly set - and it’s a strong one.
The Hokies have built their 2027 class early, and the group now sits at 26 commits. That haul includes a cluster of blue-chip prospects and has Virginia Tech positioned as one of the ACC’s better recruiting stories heading into the season. The class surged out of the gate this summer and has stayed among the conference’s top groups.
According to 247Sports, Virginia Tech has drifted back a bit as other programs added more commitments, but the Hokies are still hanging around the top 15 nationally. They are also close enough to Clemson’s No. 2 spot in the ACC to keep that race interesting.
That kind of climb would be a notable first full recruiting season for James Franklin in Blacksburg. It’s the sort of momentum the Hokies expected when he was hired. Franklin’s track record at Penn State was built on consistently strong classes - not always at the very top of the Big Ten, but good enough to stockpile blue-chip talent and turn it into NFL players.
It’s still early, and there is more work to be done, but Virginia Tech’s outlook on the recruiting trail looks promising. Landing talent is the first step for any program trying to move into the elite tier, and Franklin appears to be doing that so far.
The class is led by Top 100 quarterback Peter Bourque, who is the most important piece in the group. Virginia Tech also has four blue-chip players on the line of scrimmage and a four-star tight end. Compared with previous regimes, it’s a clear upgrade - and another sign that Franklin has the Hokies headed in the right direction.
