Virginia Tech Gains Star Power With Penn State Transfer Luke Reynolds

Virginia Tech lands a major asset in former five-star recruit Luke Reynolds, following his tight end coach Ty Howle's move from Penn State.

When James Franklin set about crafting his new coaching lineup at Virginia Tech, one of his first moves was reaching out to Ty Howle, his co-offensive coordinator and tight end coach from Penn State. Howle had a knack for transforming the tight end group into a powerhouse, so it wasn't shocking when a couple of his standout players decided to join him in his new venture.

One of those players is Luke Reynolds, a true sophomore tight end. Reynolds, a former five-star recruit and the top tight end prospect in the nation according to 247Sports, hails from Cheshire Academy in Connecticut.

He quickly made his mark on the field, playing in 29 games with 11 starts over two seasons at Penn State. During that time, he notched 35 catches on 48 targets, amassing 368 yards and a touchdown.

What makes Reynolds' stats particularly interesting is their similarity to those of Benji Gosnell, Virginia Tech's current standout tight end. While Reynolds achieved his numbers over two seasons, Gosnell's span three, setting up an intriguing dynamic as both players look to make an impact this season.
