BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech’s men’s soccer team put together a clean sheet Friday night and did it in convincing fashion, blanking Kentucky 3-0 behind Diego Dauzier’s three saves.
The Hokies got on the board in the 12th minute when Emeka Umeh scored to make it 1-0. Parker Polk extended the lead in the 59th minute, and Yanis Belatreche added a goal in the 66th minute to finish off the Wildcats.
It was the third straight 3-0 result in the series between the teams.
Virginia Tech has now opened the season 1-0.
In other area action, the Virginia Tech women rolled past American 3-0 on Friday night, with Parker Polk scoring in the 59th minute to extend the lead to 2-0, while Yanis Belatreche added a goal in the 66th minute.
Spencer Sanderson had two saves to lead the Cavaliers to a 1-0 victory over Kentucky on Friday night.
In women’s soccer, Destiny Walker scored 15 kills and 10 digs Saturday to lead the Hokies to a 3-1, 25-15, 25-17, 25-18, 25-10 win over the Eagles. Ivy Cooper had 16 digs for the Hokies.
William Ampy led Mary beat the Hokies 3-0, 25-13, 25-15, 25-13 on Friday night. Tyson Roberts had 17 kills Saturday to lead the Highlanders to a 3-1, 25-13, 25-15, 25-18, 25-10 comeback win over Hampton at East Carolina.
Macie Potter had 14 kills and 21 digs for Radford, while Mia Hanna had 24 digs.
Catherine Bennett had 16 kills and 14 digs Saturday to lead the Panthers to a 3-1, 25-24, 25-18, 25-17, 25-13 comeback win over Carolina University.
In Ferrum’s second match of the day, the Panthers beat Spartanburg Methodist 3-0, 25-16, 25-16, 25-14. Jily Ritzema had nine kills for Ferrum.
