Virginia Now Faces A Troubling RB Situation Off The Field

The Virginia Cavaliers' running back Solomon Beebe's place on the team hangs by a thread after his arrest for alleged animal cruelty, casting a shadow over his promising sports career.

Virginia running back Solomon Beebe’s status with the Cavaliers is now uncertain after he was arrested Monday on three misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals, according to the New York Post.

Beebe, who joined Virginia out of the transfer portal after two seasons at UAB, had rushed for 419 yards and seven touchdowns with the Blazers. He could still have a role for the Cavaliers in 2026, but that outlook is now clouded.

The Post reported that the charges stem from alleged abuse of Beebe’s pit bull, based on case details the outlet reviewed. The case includes one incident on Aug. 10 and two more on Aug. 12.

The Daily Progress reported that a housekeeper at the apartment complex where Beebe lives said she witnessed two separate instances of violence toward the dog, Jeb. Animal control officer Justin Gibson wrote, “She observed Mr. Beebe hold his dog against the wall and punch his dog with a closed fist multiple times,” and added that “the dog was yelping in pain with each strike.”

On the second Aug. 12 incident, Gibson wrote that Beebe “held his dog down and smacked him twice in the face without reason” in the hallway of the apartment complex.

Authorities took the dog into protective custody on Aug. 13, according to The Daily Progress.

Virginia declined to comment, saying, “The University does not comment on matters involving ongoing criminal proceedings or student records,” per 247 Sports.

Despite the arrest, Beebe was at practice Monday, and head coach Tony Elliott said he remains part of the mix at running back and on special teams.

“He showed immediately that he can play running back and be a really good one,” Elliott said Monday. “So he’s in the rotation there, which requires a lot to play for us. And then in the return game, he’s already shown what he can do there.”

Virginia is also expected to rely on transfers Peyton Lewis and Jekail Middlebrook at running back this season.

Gelnovatch's Take On Virginia's Frustrating Opener Will Spark Debate

No. 11 Virginias mens soccer season opener had the kind of early-season edge that can tell you plenty about a team, even in defeat. At Klckner Stadium, UCLA came away with a 2-1 win after striking first and then answering Virginias push, while Marco Dos Santos supplied the Cavaliers lone goal in a match that tested the home side from the start.

George Gelnovatch had plenty to sort through afterward, from the way Virginia handled the pressure to what the performance might mean heading into the next game. The result left the Cavaliers with an immediate reminder that rankings do not guarantee comfort, and it also set up a lively conversation around how much stock to put in an opener that featured stretches of control, but not enough finishing to turn it into a different kind of night. Virginia Faces A New ACC Test Against A Revived Florida State

Florida States basketball program looks nothing like the group Virginia has seen in recent years. Under first-year coach Luke Loucks, the Seminoles have brought a sharper edge and a more aggressive style for the 2025-26 season, enough to make them a far more difficult ACC assignment than their recent history might suggest. The discussion around this matchup has centered on how individual pieces fit, where Florida State can pressure teams and where Virginias structure still gives it a clear path to control the game.

Even with the Seminoles improvement, the Cavaliers still appear to have an edge in how the frontcourt battle should unfold. Virginias experience and versatility are the kind of traits that can blunt a bigger but less settled opponent, and that makes the center matchup one of the key layers in this ACC test. Florida State has clearly raised its ceiling under Loucks, but the question hanging over this one is whether that jump is enough to make it a real threat against a Virginia team built to handle exactly this sort of challenge. Virginias ACC Hopes May Ride On These 5 Difference Makers

Virginias 2026 outlook is starting to take shape around a handful of players who could determine whether the Cavaliers stay in the ACC hunt. Pribula brings the kind of leadership and arm strength that can steady an offense, Thomas gives the line the physical presence every good unit needs, and Hillman arrives with a transfer background that should help reshape the back end of the defense. The staff also sees real value in Baxters upside, even if his role is still more projection than proof.

Robinson may be the most important name in the group because of what he could mean to the defense once he is fully available again. Virginia has reason to be optimistic about the pieces around him, but the bigger question is whether those pieces are ready to come together early enough to matter in a league that rarely waits for a team to finish developing.
