Virginia Gets One More Chance To Answer Questions Before The Season

Get ready for a thrilling night of basketball as the Virginia Cavaliers face off against the Richmond Spiders in a highly anticipated exhibition at JPJ Arena.

Virginia will get one more tune-up before the games count, hosting Richmond in a Pepsi exhibition on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena.

The matchup won’t be available on TV or streaming, and general admission tickets are on sale for $18 at uvatix.com. Gates open at 6 p.m.

Season ticket members for 2026-27 men’s basketball will have their seats included in their package at no extra cost for the Virginia-Richmond exhibition. Courtside season ticket members will receive their seats the same way. JPJ suite holders will be contacted separately by the Virginia Athletics Foundation about suite reservations.

Parking will be free on a first-come, first-served basis in the Emmett/Ivy garage, JPJ garage, JPJ South, East and West lots, and The Park. Because premium seating is expected to draw heavy interest, fans are being encouraged to arrive early and use The Park. A free shuttle will run pregame and postgame from The Park beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Virginia is coming off an 82-73 exhibition loss to Vanderbilt at The LinkU Invitation on Sept. 27 in Charleston, S.C.

Along with the exhibition, Virginia has also opened up its 2026-27 ticket options. A limited number of season tickets remain available, while mini-plans and November single-game tickets are already on sale at uvatix.com. The four-game mini-plan includes a choice of Kentucky or Virginia Tech, two ACC games other than Duke, and one additional non-conference game of the fan’s choice.

December single-game tickets will go on sale in late October, with ACC games following in early December.

The Landing, UVA’s premium group space in JPJ Arena, will be available for home games during the 2026-27 season. Fans can contact the ticket sales team at (434) 924-8821 for more information.

Group deposits for the 2026-27 men’s basketball season are also live. Fans can place a $100 non-refundable deposit, which will be applied to their group purchase, to get a chance to choose seats before the general public for the program’s most anticipated home games.

Virginias Bowl Hopes Just Got A Lot More Complicated

After the blowout loss at Florida State, Virginias season looks a lot different than it did a few weeks ago. The Cavaliers are 3-2 now, but the projection model has slid from a hopeful 10-2 outlook down to 6-6, a reminder that early optimism can disappear quickly once the schedule starts tightening up and opponents look more competitive.

The path to a bowl game is still there, but it no longer feels straightforward. Virginia will need to handle the tougher stretch ahead and make the most of its home dates if it wants to stay on track for a postseason berth, with the margin for error shrinking as the calendar moves into the part of the schedule that tends to decide everything. Virginia Faces A New Test Against Syracuses Most Disruptive Strength

Syracuse heads to Scott Stadium still carrying the memory of a rough defensive outing against UConn, but the Orange arrive in Charlottesville with a front and secondary built to make life difficult for Virginia. The Cavaliers will be trying to bounce back from an offense that sputtered in its last game, and the challenge is obvious: Syracuse brings athleticism, length and enough disruptive potential to force Virginia out of its comfort zone early.

The intrigue for Virginia starts with how Syracuse can affect the edges and limit clean throws in space. Johnson, Adeleye and Peal each bring a different kind of problem to solve, from pressure up front to coverage in the back end, and the Cavaliers will have to account for all of it if they want any rhythm. Virginias passing game already has a shaky recent film to answer for, and the Orange defense seems built to make every small mistake feel bigger. [Read more 🡒]

Virginia Faces A Syracuse Test That Could Steady Or Shake This Season

Virginia heads into its matchup with Syracuse at 3-2, still trying to settle itself after a significant loss to Florida State. This is the kind of game that can either help a team regain its footing or leave it searching for answers again, especially with Syracuse bringing a defense and rushing game that should force Virginia to prove it can handle pressure on both sides of the ball.

The Orange have also been sorting through their own quarterback situation, with a recent switch from Steve Angeli to Amari Odom adding another layer of uncertainty to the matchup. For Virginia, the focus will be on matching up with Syracuse playmakers like wide receiver Umari Hatcher and linebacker Keyshawn Johnson while keeping the game from tilting in a direction that exposes the Cavaliers even more.
