Virginia football’s weekly radio show is back Tuesday night, with Tony Elliott set to meet fans at Dairy Market in Charlottesville just days before the Cavaliers open the 2026 season against NC State.
Coach’s Corner with Tony Elliott will run from 7-8 p.m. on Aug. 25 at Dairy Market, located at 946 Grady Ave. The show is hosted by John Freeman, the “Voice of the Cavaliers.”
This week’s guest will be linebacker Maddox Marcellus, giving fans a chance to hear from one of Virginia’s returning defensive pieces ahead of Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. kickoff against NC State on Aug. 29.
The event is open to fans, who are invited to attend in person and watch the show while taking advantage of the food, beverage and retail options inside Dairy Market. Free parking is available in the lot next to the venue.
The school said the exact location inside Dairy Market may change during the year and will be posted on VirginiaSports.com and on X on the day of each show. Student-athlete guests will be announced on VirginiaSports.com and the day before each show.
Marcellus brings a solid resume into the spotlight. He played in 13 of 14 possible games last season and made two starts, one against Virginia Tech on Nov. 29 and another in the ACC Championship against Duke on Dec.
- Against the Hokies, he delivered his best outing of the year, finishing with a season-high nine tackles and an interception in Virginia’s 27-7 win.
He also reached a then-season high with six tackles, including two solo stops, in the Cavaliers’ 30-27 overtime game at Louisville on Oct. 4.

Virginia football could soon look a little different on Saturdays, with the NCAA clearing the way for padded helmet attachments to be worn in games beginning in the 2026-27 season. The change applies to covers such as the Guardian Cap and SAFR Helmet Cover, which are designed to reduce head injuries and must be matched to a teams helmet color and design, making them less of a novelty and more of a possible part of the uniform.
At Virginia, Tony Elliott said any in-game use would be handled with health and comfort in mind, with the program leaning on its medical staff before leaving the final choice in a players hands. Virginia May Have One Answer For NC States Biggest Threat
Kam Robinson is trending toward being available for Virginia when the Cavaliers open the season in a rematch with N.C. State, a welcome development after the linebacker worked his way back from a torn ACL. Even if he is not ready for a full workload, his return gives the defense an athletic presence it can trust in a game that figures to demand discipline, speed and a lot of attention on the back end.
Robinsons value may be as much about matchups as volume, especially if Virginia wants someone who can help account for quarterback C.J. Bailey. The Cavaliers could lean on him in third-down and run-pass-option looks, using his quickness and past defensive versatility to help limit the kind of plays that can stretch a defense horizontally and force it into tough decisions.
