Jacari White is taking the professional route overseas instead of chasing a roster spot with the Los Angeles Lakers.
White, the shooting guard who made his mark in one season at Virginia, has signed with Windrose Giants Antwerp, the reigning Belgian league champions. He had previously agreed to play for the Lakers’ summer league team, but he did not appear in their opener.
White’s lone season with the Cavaliers was a productive one. After transferring from North Dakota State, he led Virginia with 69 made 3-pointers in 2025-26, averaged 9.4 points per game and shot a team-high 43.4 percent from beyond the arc. His season was interrupted by five missed games after he broke his wrist falling after a dunk against Maryland.
He delivered some of his biggest scoring nights in key moments. White had 26 points in Virginia’s first-round NCAA tournament win over Wright State and scored 25 in a regular-season victory against Dayton.
He also set a school record by hitting 12 straight 3-point attempts over a three-game stretch from Nov. 28 to Dec. 6, a run that helped make him a quick fan favorite. Students even showed up in the stands wearing “Jacarmy” T-shirts.
That shooting touch drew the Lakers’ attention, and White landed on their summer league roster with a shot at earning a training camp invitation. But after he sat out their 104-72 loss to Golden State on Friday in San Francisco, Windrose Antwerp Giants announced two days later that he had signed a guaranteed one-year contract.
The Giants are coming off their second BNXT League title, won this past spring in the top division of Belgian basketball. Virginia also had a connection there through current standout forward Thijs De Ridder, who previously played for the Giants before arriving in Charlottesville.
Antwerp will begin its title defense on Sept. 26 against the Landstede Hammers.
White is one of four players from Virginia’s 2026-27 squad who have moved on to professional teams. Center Ugonna Onyenso was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in the second round last week and is set to play for their summer league team in Las Vegas starting Thursday.
Guard Malik Thomas has accepted a spot with the Toronto Raptors’ summer league team and will also be in Las Vegas. Forward Devin Tillis recently signed with Korihait Uusikaupunki in Finland’s top league, the Korisliiga, after averaging 4.1 points and 2.7 rebounds in his only season at Virginia following a transfer from UC Irvine.

These 2026 Virginia Matchups Could Decide If UVA Is Ready
Virginias 2026 schedule looks like the kind that can tell you plenty about where the program stands, and the early read starts up front. The Cavaliers are set to face an NC State rushing attack that already showed it can overwhelm them, while Florida State brings a receiver in Jordan Robinson who can stretch a defense and force mistakes if the coverage is even a step slow.
The trip to SMU may end up carrying the most weight of all, because it is the sort of game that can shape the rest of the ACC race. Virginias Pribula and SMUs Grunkemeyer will draw plenty of attention as a quarterback comparison, but the bigger battle may come down to whether the Cavaliers can handle a veteran offensive line and keep the Mustangs from dictating the game on their terms.
