Victor Olofsson is set to be back in the Vegas Golden Knights’ lineup tonight in Detroit, with head coach Ryan Craig saying Thursday afternoon that the winger will face the Red Wings. According to Knights reporter Danny Webster, Olofsson will slot onto the third line alongside Tomas Hertl and rookie Trevor Connelly.
It’s a welcome return for a player who came out flying in his second run with Vegas. Olofsson piled up four goals and an assist in his first four games, highlighted by a two-goal performance against the Kraken on October 6.
That night ended badly, though, when Kraken forward Ben Meyers drove him into the boards. Meyers received a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct, while Olofsson needed help getting off the ice.
He was placed on long-term injured reserve and had been considered week-to-week since.
Vegas enters the night sitting second in the Pacific with 22 points, but the club has hit a rough patch, going 2-3-2 over its last seven games. The most recent win came Tuesday in Pittsburgh, where Hertl scored his second power-play goal of the night in the final minute of regulation to secure a 3-2 victory.
Olofsson’s path to this point has been a winding one. Buffalo selected him in the seventh round, 181st overall, in 2014, and he spent the next four seasons in the SHL with MoDo and Frölunda.
When he first came to North America, he made an immediate impression, scoring 30 goals and 63 points in 66 games for Rochester in 2018-19 before earning a late-season call-up to Buffalo. He stayed with the Sabres the next fall and produced 90 goals and 182 points in 314 games over parts of six seasons with the club.
Since leaving Buffalo, the winger has bounced around. He signed one-year deals with Vegas in 2024 and Colorado in 2025, and in March, Colorado dealt him to Calgary in the trade that brought Nazem Kadri back to the Avalanche. Olofsson then returned to the Golden Knights on a one-year, $1.64MM contract on July 1.

Islanders Add Veteran Blue Line Depth After Surprise Camp Push
Ben Hutton has turned a training-camp invitation into something more substantial, landing a one-year contract with the Islanders after first joining the club on a professional tryout. The veteran defenseman has carved out a long NHL career as a reliable depth option, and the new deal gives New York another experienced left-shot presence on the back end at a pro-rated $900,000 cap hit.
For Vegas fans, Hutton is a familiar name from a stint that included a championship run with the Golden Knights, part of the broader track record that has made him a useful fit for teams looking for steady blue-line help. His path to Long Island also reflects the kind of late-summer roster churn that can quickly turn a tryout into a real opportunity, and the Islanders clearly saw enough in camp to keep him around on a one-year, one-way contract. Golden Knights Keep Banking Points Despite One Growing Offensive Concern
The Golden Knights have kept collecting points even as one part of their attack has gone quiet. Five-on-five scoring has dipped lately, but Vegas has found other ways to stay afloat, leaning on strong goaltending and timely special teams work to earn points in four of its last five games while holding a 10-5-2 record and sitting second in the Pacific Division.
Carter Hart and Adin Hill have both given the club steady work in net, and the penalty kill and power play have each done their part during this stretch. The broader concern is obvious: if the five-on-five offense does not start to tilt back in the right direction, the margin for error will keep shrinking, even for a team that has been getting enough from the rest of its game to keep winning the standings battle. Golden Knights Bring Lineup Intrigue And Milestone Buzz Into Detroit
The Golden Knights head into Little Caesars Arena for a stop on their Eastern Conference road trip with a few lineup storylines worth watching, even before the puck drops against the Red Wings. Vegas has been sorting through recent performances, special teams numbers and projected lineups as it tries to keep the trip moving in the right direction, while Detroit brings its own set of matchups and starting-goalie questions into the night.
There is also some milestone buzz hanging over the game, with Brayden McNabb closing in on another notable mark for his Vegas tenure. Mitch Marner is part of that conversation too, giving the Golden Knights a little extra to track beyond the standings as they work through the road swing and see how the pieces fit against a Red Wings team that should make the test worthwhile.
