In a game that felt as big as Texas itself, the Vegas Golden Knights pulled off one of their most crucial victories of the season. Snapping a three-game skid, they edged out the Dallas Stars with a thrilling 3-2 win on Sunday.
The action kicked off early with Brayden McNabb channeling some serious Jack Eichel vibes. Just four minutes into the game, McNabb went coast-to-coast, catching the Stars' defense napping. He then slipped one past Casey DeSmith for his fourth goal of the season, putting Vegas on the board first.
Dallas wasn't about to stay quiet, though. Their power play unit got into gear, and Wyatt Johnston capitalized on some slick passing to notch his franchise-record 23rd power-play goal.
The Stars then took the lead thanks to a defensive lapse from Vegas. An opportunistic Justin Hryckowian pounced on a rebound, sending the puck past Hill and putting Dallas in front.
The second period saw Vegas's second power play unit step up. Brett Howden set up Ivan Barbashev with a perfect pass, and Barbashev didn't miss, finding the top corner over a sprawling DeSmith. This goal was Barbashev’s 20th of the season and ended a scoring drought for the Knights' forwards.
Penalties dominated the end of the second and start of the third periods. Vegas showcased some stellar penalty killing, particularly during an Eichel double minor. Meanwhile, DeSmith made a highlight-reel save against Rasmus Andersson to keep the game tied during a Vegas power play.
With the clock winding down, veteran Reilly Smith made his presence felt in a big way. Returning to the lineup, Smith found himself in the right place at the right time amidst a scramble in front of the net. He buried the puck with just over three and a half minutes left, securing a lead that Vegas would hold onto for the win.
This game was a testament to the Golden Knights' resilience and ability to capitalize on key moments, setting the stage for what could be a pivotal point in their season.
