Carter George Makes OHL History with Second Goalie Goal, Continues Red-Hot Run with Soo Greyhounds
It’s not every day you see a goaltender score a goal. It’s even rarer to see one do it twice. But that’s exactly what Carter George pulled off Wednesday night, etching his name into the Ontario Hockey League record books as the first goalie to score two career goals.
The 18-year-old Los Angeles Kings prospect continues to impress, this time not just with his glove or his positioning-but with a perfectly placed shot from behind his own net. With the Soo Greyhounds clinging to a 3-2 lead and the London Knights pressing with an extra attacker, George corralled a dump-in behind his cage and launched the puck down the ice. It slid clean into the empty net, sealing the win and sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
It’s the kind of moment that reminds you just how special George is-not just as a netminder, but as a playmaker with elite puck-handling instincts. His first goal came back in November 2024, when he was still with the Owen Sound Attack, scoring against the Peterborough Petes.
That alone was a rare feat. Doing it again, with a new team and in a high-stakes moment, puts him in a category all his own.
George’s move to the Soo Greyhounds is already paying dividends. Since being acquired in a January 7 trade from Owen Sound, the Thunder Bay native has been lights out.
He’s posted a perfect 4-0-0 record with a sparkling .947 save percentage and a minuscule 1.25 goals against average. Those are elite numbers in any league, and they speak to a player who’s not just adjusting to a new team-he’s elevating it.
And let’s not forget: George is fresh off representing Canada at the 2026 World Junior Championship, where he helped backstop the team to a bronze medal. Add that to his growing list of achievements, and you start to see why the Kings used their second-round pick (No. 57 overall) in the 2024 NHL Draft to secure his rights.
Over the course of 139 OHL regular-season games between the Greyhounds and the Attack, George holds a 61-55-14 record with a .909 save percentage and a 3.17 goals against average. Those numbers only tell part of the story. What stands out is his trajectory-how each season, each stop, he’s finding new ways to impact the game.
The Kings clearly saw something special when they signed him to a three-year entry-level deal in July 2024, locking him in at an $875,000 annual average value through the 2026-27 season. And based on what we’ve seen so far-especially this week-they may have landed a goaltender who not only stops pucks but changes games.
Carter George is rewriting the goalie playbook in the OHL. And if this is what he’s doing now, just imagine what’s coming next.
