Golden Knights Suddenly Face A Scoring Problem They Didn't Expect

The Vegas Golden Knights face team adjustments as forward Victor Olofsson is sidelined week-to-week with an injury, shaking up the lineup prior to their clash with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Victor Olofsson’s hot start has hit a sudden pause.

Vegas Golden Knights head coach Ryan Craig said Thursday that the 31-year-old forward is week-to-week after getting hurt in the team’s 6-2 win over the Seattle Kraken. Olofsson had already made his mark in that game, scoring twice in 10:48 of ice time before leaving midway through the third period.

The injury came after Kraken forward Ben Meyers checked Olofsson awkwardly into the boards. Meyers was given a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct, while Olofsson needed help getting off the ice and did not return.

Vegas was already adjusting on the fly at Thursday morning skate. Raphael Lavoie took Olofsson’s place in line rushes, and Trevor Connelly stepped onto the club’s top power-play unit.

The Golden Knights are set to host the Toronto Maple Leafs at T-Mobile Arena on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Pacific.

Olofsson signed a one-year, $1.638 million deal with Vegas on July 1 as an unrestricted free agent. The 5’11” winger played for the Golden Knights in 2024-25 as well, putting up 15 goals and 29 points in 56 regular-season games and adding two goals and four points in nine playoff games. Through five games this season, he has four goals and five points.

Originally a seventh-round pick, No. 181 overall, by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2014 NHL Draft, Olofsson came to North America in 2018 after developing in Sweden. He spent parts of six seasons with Buffalo and scored at least 20 goals in three of them.

Olofsson left Buffalo for Vegas as a UFA in 2024. After that first run with the Golden Knights, he signed with the Colorado Avalanche in the summer of 2025 and played 60 games with Colorado in 2025-26 before being moved to the Calgary Flames as part of the Nazem Kadri trade.

Mitch Marner Has A Chance To Burn Toronto In His Vegas Debut

Mitch Marners first game in a Golden Knights sweater is already carrying extra weight, and not just because it comes against the Maple Leafs, the team that made him one of the NHLs most recognizable young stars. Vegas brought him in to tilt games with his playmaking, and this matchup offers an immediate chance to see how quickly he fits into a group built to attack in waves. With his linemates bringing plenty of offense of their own, the setup feels tailor-made for Marner to make an early imprint.

There are a few different ways he could do it, from feeding the power play to creating pressure in short-handed situations, where his anticipation has long been a weapon. Toronto, meanwhile, has had its own issues in net lately, which only adds to the intrigue around a player who has already spent years trying to solve the Leafs on the biggest stage. The debut has plenty of storylines attached to it, but the one everyone will be watching is whether Marner can make his former club feel the loss right away. [Read more 🡒]

Golden Knights Face A New Challenge In Toronto's Shifting Lineup

The Golden Knights are heading into Toronto with a slightly different look of their own, as injured Victor Olofsson comes out of the lineup and Raphael Lavoie gets a chance to step in. Olofsson had opened the season with four goals in four games, so Vegas is not just swapping a body, it is trying to absorb the loss of a player who had quickly become a real early-season driver.

Toronto, meanwhile, is adjusting around a lineup that keeps shifting ahead of the meeting. Rookie Gavin McKenna is expected to slide back onto the third line, where the Leafs are trying to settle him in alongside Nick Paul and Colton Sissons, while Sergei Bobrovsky is slated to start in goal as he looks for his first win of the season. For Vegas, that means another test against a team still searching for the right mix, with the details of Toronto's new look adding a little extra uncertainty to an already tricky road game.
