Golden Knights Stun Kings With Dramatic Overtime Finish on the Road

Mark Stone sealed a dramatic overtime victory as the surging Golden Knights extended their win streak in a hard-fought battle against the Kings.

Golden Knights Edge Kings in Overtime Thriller, Extend Win Streak to Five

The Vegas Golden Knights are heating up at just the right time. With a 3-2 overtime win over the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night at Crypto.com Arena, Vegas extended its win streak to five and continued to show why it’s one of the most resilient teams in the league.

How It Unfolded

This one started as a goalie duel, with both sides holding firm through a scoreless first period. But early in the second, the Golden Knights broke through.

Braeden Bowman found the back of the net just four minutes in, thanks to a beautifully orchestrated sequence. Shea Theodore initiated the play, feeding Jack Eichel, who slipped a slick backhand pass to Bowman in the slot.

Bowman wasted no time, going top shelf on Darcy Kuemper to give Vegas the 1-0 lead.

The Kings didn’t go quietly. Kevin Fiala tied it up in the third with a gritty rebound goal, capitalizing on a loose puck in front of the net.

But the Golden Knights answered right back. On the power play, Mitch Marner snapped one off the post and in, putting Vegas back on top with just under eight minutes to go.

Credit Eichel again for starting the sequence, working the puck along the boards to Mark Stone, who teed up Marner between the circles for the go-ahead tally.

Still, the Kings had one more push in them. With just 1:27 left in regulation, Brandt Clarke found the equalizer, forcing overtime and giving the home crowd a reason to believe.

But Vegas didn’t let this one slip. Just 25 seconds into the extra frame, Eichel circled behind the net and found Stone wide open. Stone buried the game-winner, capping off a two-point night and sealing the Golden Knights' fifth consecutive win.

Between the pipes, Akira Schmid was steady all night, stopping 22 of 24 shots to notch his 14th win of the season.

Standout Performers

  • Mark Stone: The captain continues to lead by example. With a goal and an assist, including the overtime winner, Stone now has 15 points (8G, 7A) in his last nine games.

He’s been on the scoresheet in 26 of the 29 games he’s played this season - that’s a league-best 89.7% clip. He also notched his 26th career game-winning goal for Vegas, the second-most in franchise history.

  • Jack Eichel: Eichel was the engine behind the offense, assisting on all three Golden Knights goals. He’s now riding a six-game point streak, with 10 points (4G, 6A) over that stretch. His vision and playmaking were on full display, especially in overtime.
  • Mitch Marner: Marner’s power-play goal gave Vegas a late lead and pushed his season point total to 46 (11G, 36A). He’s been a consistent offensive weapon since joining the Golden Knights.
  • Braeden Bowman: The rookie continues to make his presence felt. His sixth goal of the season opened the scoring and set the tone for Vegas.
  • Shea Theodore: Back in the lineup and making an immediate impact, Theodore has notched a point in every game since returning on January 10 (2G, 1A).

Team Trends and Takeaways

The Golden Knights are playing with confidence and cohesion. They’ve now earned points in six straight games and are finding ways to win close contests - a hallmark of a team that knows how to close.

The top line is clicking, the power play is producing, and the defense is holding up in crunch time. With Eichel and Stone leading the charge and contributions coming from up and down the lineup, Vegas is looking like a team ready to make another deep run.
