The Vegas Golden Knights put defenseman Lukas Cormier on waivers Wednesday, opening the door for the 24-year-old to head back to the minors if he clears Thursday.
Cormier began the 2026-27 season on the Golden Knights’ non-roster/injured list after suffering an undisclosed injury in training camp. That kept him out for the last few weeks, and now he’s in line for a return to the Henderson Silver Knights, Vegas’ American Hockey League affiliate.
It’s a familiar path for Cormier, who was coming off the most productive season of his pro career. He put up eight goals and 39 assists for 47 points with Henderson, tying for sixth on the team in scoring. That production helped the Silver Knights finish third in the AHL’s Pacific Division and beat the San Jose Barracuda in the first round, giving the franchise its first official Calder Cup Playoff series win.
Henderson’s run ended in the division semifinals against the Colorado Eagles, but Cormier still finished second on the club in playoff scoring with five points in six games.
The New Brunswick native has not played NHL hockey in a while. His last action with Vegas came in the 2023-24 season, when he appeared in two games and collected an assist.
Over 188 regular-season AHL games, Cormier has logged 22 goals and 89 assists for 111 points. He is on a one-year, two-way contract with an NHL cap hit of $850,000, an AHL salary of $225,000 and a guaranteed salary of $275,000.
Vegas also made a roster move up front, recalling forward Alex Holtz from Henderson. Holtz played 28 games for the Golden Knights last season and had three goals and nine points. This year, he has four goals and eight points in five games with the Silver Knights.

Carter Harts New Mask Says A Lot About His Vegas Mindset
Carter Harts latest bit of Vegas flair came in the form of a new goalie mask, one that leans hard into the citys identity while also telling a little bit about the player wearing it. The design features Elvis Presley, a nod that came from a friends suggestion, and was brought to life by artist Frannie Drummond with a gold Presley signature, a TCB logo, a cross symbolizing Harts faith and the Golden Knights 10th anniversary logo.
For a goalie in a city that prizes style as much as results, it is a fitting visual. Hart has talked about how grateful he is to be part of the Vegas organization and about wanting to help carry the teams winning culture forward, and the mask feels like a small but clear sign of how he sees his place there. Golden Knights Exposed A Problem Fans Cannot Ignore
The Golden Knights entered the second period tied 2-2 with Tampa Bay, but the game quickly slipped away from there in a 6-2 loss that left plenty to sort through. For a team that has built its identity on structure and control, the way things unraveled after the opening 20 minutes was hard to miss, especially with captain Mark Stone and head coach Ryan Craig both pointing to the performance as a step back.
Vegas was already dealing with the kind of night that forces a close look at details, and the second-period stretch only sharpened the issue. The Golden Knights allowed three goals in that frame and never found a way to steady themselves, leaving the postgame focus on what needs to change before a similar lapse costs them again. Golden Knights Just Got A Reminder They Still Have One Big Issue
The Golden Knights had been rolling into Tuesday night, but the matchup with Tampa Bay at T-Mobile Arena served as a sharp reminder that their margin for error can disappear fast. Vegas entered on a three-game win streak and still looked like a team with plenty of punch early in the season, yet the Lightning steadily took control and turned the night into a lopsided 6-2 result.
The second period was where it really unraveled, with Tampa Bay scoring three times and Anthony Cirelli doing the heaviest damage with a pair of goals. Carter Hart never found his footing in net, allowing five goals on 14 shots through two periods, and the loss dropped Vegas to 8-3 while putting an uncomfortable spotlight back on the area the Golden Knights still need to clean up.
