Golden Knights Just Made A First Round Move Fans Know Too Well

The Vegas Golden Knights make a strategic move by signing Finnish defenseman Juho Piiparinen to an entry-level contract, hinting at the potential future impact of the young first-round draft pick.

The Vegas Golden Knights have signed 2026 first-round draft pick Juho Piiparinen to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Piiparinen, a defenseman, was taken by Vegas in the first round of the 2026 NHL Draft. The 17-year-old spent the 2025-26 season in Finland’s Liiga with Tappara, where he recorded three assists in 29 games. He also logged time with Tappara’s U20 team, finishing with 13 points, including one goal and 12 assists, along with a plus-9 rating.

Internationally, Piiparinen represented Finland at the 2026 World Junior Championship and picked up an assist in six games.

The signing comes after the Golden Knights made a major overhaul of their draft-pick inventory, including a trade that sent Pavel Dorofeyev to the New York Rangers in exchange for two first-round picks, one of which was used on Piiparinen, plus an additional pick. That move, along with others, also opened up future salary-cap space and set the table for what could be a bigger addition down the line.

Vegas has a recent history of using first-round picks as trade currency, with Zach Dean, David Edstrom, and Brendan Brisson all eventually moved to help land bigger names. Whether Piiparinen follows that same path remains to be seen.

For now, though, the young Finnish blueliner has a chance to carve out a different story. His puck-moving skill and two-way game give him a shot to become more than just another chip in the Golden Knights’ larger plan.

Golden Knights Just Lost Serious Ground In The Dylan Larkin Chase

The Dylan Larkin conversation has already shifted away from a simple wish-list item and into the harder reality of what it would take to pry him out of Detroit. The Red Wings are not looking for a rebuild-style package, either. Steve Yzerman has reportedly been holding out for a player who can help push the team back toward the playoffs right away, which explains why the early offers have not gone anywhere.

For Vegas, the problem is more familiar than exciting: the cap math is still ugly, and the Golden Knights do not have much room to maneuver even with Alex Pietrangelo on season-ending LTIR. They could explore moving pieces such as Tomas Hertl or Adin Hill, but even that may not be enough to make a Larkin deal realistic, at least not without waiting for the market to change later in the season. Anthony Mantha Just Reopened A Debate Red Wings Fans Know Well

Anthony Manthas next stop has become another reminder of how much his career has zigzagged since Detroit made him the 20th pick in 2013. The winger has now landed with the Devils on a two-year deal, and the move gives New Jersey a veteran forward who can help on the score sheet while also bringing the kind of physical edge teams still seem willing to bet on.

For Red Wings fans, Mantha has always been one of those names that keeps reopening the same old debate about what might have been. He just finished a career-best offensive season in Pittsburgh, and the Devils are hoping that production carries over as they look for more depth and grit in their lineup, even if the playoff questions around his game have never fully gone away.
