Alexander Holtz is back in the Vegas Golden Knights’ orbit after the team recalled him from the AHL on October 21, 2026, while also placing defenseman Lukas Cormier on waivers and moving injured defenseman Parker Wotherspoon to IR.
For now, the move opens the door for another look at a player the Golden Knights still haven’t quite been able to fit into their lineup. Vegas doesn’t have much going on among its forwards in terms of injuries, with Victor Olofsson the lone notable absence, and the club has already gotten encouraging play from lower-line wingers Marc Gatcomb and Braeden Bowman. That leaves Holtz with a thin path to meaningful minutes.
Still, if circumstances break his way and he gets a real shot, he’ll have at least some AHL production to point to. Through five games with Henderson this season, Holtz has four goals and four assists. The bigger question is whether he can turn that into something lasting in Vegas.
That has been the challenge throughout his Golden Knights run. The issue is not just production, but whether he shows enough confidence with the puck to make his skill matter.
When he does have the puck, the hesitation can be obvious. He has seven goals and 14 assists in his two-year Vegas residency, and that lack of finish is part of why the New Jersey Devils moved on from him.
His game has also raised concerns away from the puck. Holtz has not been a strong back-checker, and that has frustrated former head coach Bruce Cassidy. If he is not bringing value defensively, he has to make up for it somewhere else, and that has not happened consistently enough.
There is still talent there. Holtz has a shot that can be blistering when everything lines up. But in Vegas, it has not been controlled or reliable enough to become a real weapon.
That is why the excitement that followed his arrival before the 2024-25 season has faded. He came in off a season with the New Jersey Devils in which he posted 16 goals and 12 assists, and that created real hope that he could add pop to the Golden Knights’ attack. Instead, the results have lagged, and patience around him has worn thin.
If he gets another chance, Holtz will need to make it count quickly. Right now, the path ahead looks shaky, and his status as a restricted free agent with arbitration rights after this season only adds to the uncertainty.

Blackhawks Get Encouraging Bowen Byram Update At Crucial Time
The Golden Knights have been shuffling their blue line again, recalling defenseman Ville Heinola from AHL Henderson for the third time in just over a week. He has still not made his NHL debut, but the repeated movement underscores how quickly teams are having to adapt as injuries and lineup uncertainty keep testing depth on the back end.
Around the league, a few injury updates are starting to shape the coming stretch. Calgary captain Mikael Backlund will sit out with an upper-body injury, Nashville forward Mavrik Bourque is nearing a return after missing four games, and Chicago got an encouraging sign with Bowen Byram continuing to progress and remaining day-to-day as he works back. For Vegas, those developments matter because every healthy defenseman and every available minute can become important in a tight race. [Read more 🡒]
