The Vegas Golden Knights have seen plenty of opposing goalies since arriving in the NHL for the 2017-18 season, but a few have made themselves especially unwelcome in Nevada.
John Gibson has faced Vegas more than any other netminder, taking on the Golden Knights 31 times. He also owns the worst record of any goalie against them at 6-19-5, which is exactly the kind of line that makes him a familiar name to Vegas fans for all the wrong reasons.
But Gibson isn’t the only current goalie Golden Knights supporters have reason to groan about. A few others have built up their own track records, whether through regular-season success or big playoff moments.
Brandon Bussi is at the top of that list for a very specific reason. The Carolina Hurricanes goalie has never faced the Golden Knights in the regular season, but his work in the 2026 Stanley Cup Final made him an instant villain in Nevada.
He entered the series in Game 3, a 5-4 double-overtime loss, then helped Carolina rip off three straight wins. That run included a 22-save shutout in Game 6, the game that sent the Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup.
Sergei Bobrovsky is another name that sticks in Vegas circles. The Toronto Maple Leafs goalie lost the only playoff meeting against the Golden Knights, in the 2023 Stanley Cup Final, when Vegas won its only championship.
Still, his regular-season numbers against the club are strong: he is 8-3-0 in 11 meetings with a .913 save percentage and a 2.40 goals-against average, plus two shutouts. He has allowed just 26 goals against, the second-fewest by any goalie with at least 10 appearances against Vegas.
Then there’s Jake Oettinger, who has become one of the most recognizable Golden Knights headaches in the league. The Dallas Stars goalie has only 12 career games against Vegas, but he has made them count, going 8-2-2 with a .914 save percentage and a 2.34 goals-against average, the lowest among goalies with at least 10 games against the Golden Knights.
In the playoffs, he has seen Vegas more than anyone else, going 6-7 across two series. One of those series ended in a loss in 2023, and the other ended in a win in 2024.
