Vanderbilt basketball’s recruiting run could get even louder this weekend.
The Commodores are set to host five-star wing Malachi Jordan and four-star power forward Davis Cochran on official visits, Vandy on SI has confirmed.
Jordan brings the kind of profile that turns heads fast. The 6-foot-7 wing is a high-volume scorer and is widely viewed by evaluators as one of the top prospects in the 2027 high school class. Vanderbilt will be in the mix with a long list of heavy hitters, as Jordan also holds offers from Kansas, UConn, USC, Tennessee, Alabama and Missouri.
If the Commodores were able to land him, it would be a major result for the program. Jordan would be the highest-rated recruit Vanderbilt has held a commitment from since Darius Garland and Simi Shittu committed in 2017.
Cochran gives Vanderbilt another intriguing target to work with this weekend. The Brentwood native and Brentwood product has picked up offers from Auburn, Virginia, Kansas State, Cincinnati, Tennessee and several other power-five programs.
At 6-foot-9 and 220 pounds, he projects as a strong floor spacer and would also carry local significance for the Commodores. He’d be the program’s first commit from Brentwood since Tyler Tanner-who attended Brentwood Academy.
The visits come at a time when Mark Byington’s staff has built some real momentum. Vanderbilt has landed five-star wing Gabe Nesmith, who reclassified and will join the program this season, along with three top 100 players in the 2026 high school class. The Commodores also hosted class of 2028 five-star forward Bentley Lusakeno on a visit a week ago.
That push comes after a 27-win season, and Byington has made clear the goal is to keep the program moving forward with the right kind of players.
“You want as many like-minded people around you as possible,” Byington told Vandy on SI this summer. “I think we’re doing that with the players we’re bringing in.
We don’t want people to come who just want to live in Nashville or want to make money. We want people that want to make a legacy here and take Vanderbilt to a Final Four, to a national championship.”

A few days before Vanderbilt lines up against NC State, the Commodores are already dealing with a defense that has taken a real hit. Defensive lineman Aaron Bryant is out for the season after suffering an ACL injury and will need knee surgery, a blow that removes one of the bigger bodies from the rotation and leaves the front trying to absorb another loss at a spot where depth is always at a premium.
The injury list does not stop there. Tight end Cole Spence is still week-to-week with a lower body injury and is expected to miss the matchup, while linebacker Jamison Curtis and cornerback Jaylin Lackey are also sidelined with soft tissue injuries. Jared Curtis Gives Vanderbilt A 2-0 Jolt With Bigger Tests Ahead
Vanderbilt got the kind of early-season lift it wanted in Nashville, beating Delaware 35-26 behind a balanced performance from quarterback Jared Curtis. Curtis was efficient through the air and dangerous on the ground, completing 14 of 22 passes for 210 yards while running for two touchdowns and throwing another, giving the Commodores a clean second win to build on.
Delaware made it more of a game than the final margin might suggest, especially after quarterback Nick Minicucci was injured during the contest and still came back to finish with 182 passing yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.
