SEC Star Abruptly CUT In NFL Shocker

In the wake of Terrion Arnold's release, the Detroit Lions explore a range of potential candidates to fill the void at cornerback, with CBS highlighting a mix of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers.

The Detroit Lions have already moved on from Terrion Arnold, and now the search for help at cornerback has begun in earnest.

On Monday, the team released the 23-year-old former first-round pick after his recent arrest. Arnold is facing eight charges tied to a February armed robbery and kidnapping case in Florida, and those charges carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison.

Arnold had been a fixture in the Lions’ secondary over the past two seasons, starting 22 of his 24 appearances. Going into 2026, the expectation was that he would be in the mix again for a starting job. That picture has changed quickly.

Detroit still has some pieces in place. D.J.

Reed and Rock Ya-Sin are back after starting 11 and six games last season, respectively. Ennis Rakestraw Jr., a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, is also on the roster, though injuries have limited him to just eight games across his first two seasons.

The Lions added Keith Abney II from Arizona State in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft and brought in former Titans and Rams cornerback Roger McCreary in free agency.

Even with that group, Arnold’s release leaves a clear opening for more help. CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani laid out several possible options Monday night.

One name is Rasul Douglas, the former Dolphins cornerback who will turn 31 in August. Dajani pointed to Douglas as an underrated option, noting his run with the Buffalo Bills as a trade-deadline addition in 2023 and his 2025 production with Miami, where he had 62 tackles, 13 passes defensed and two interceptions. Douglas was also named AFC Defensive Player of the Week after a standout showing against the Jets in Week 14, when he had five passes defensed, two tackles and an interception.

Another veteran on the list is Tre'Davious White, the former Bills cornerback and two-time Pro Bowler. White started 16 games last season and finished with 40 tackles, 10 passes defensed and one interception.

Dajani noted that White has not looked like a premier corner lately, but still shows flashes. He also highlighted White’s playoff performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars, when White deflected three Trevor Lawrence passes, including a fourth-quarter throw that Cole Bishop intercepted to clinch the win.

Kenny Moore was also mentioned, though Dajani was careful to note that he is a slot corner and “strictly a slot cornerback and not really an Arnold replacement.” Still, Moore is available after the Indianapolis Colts gave him permission to seek a trade this offseason before he was released.

In 2025, he posted 55 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, six passes defensed and one interception. It was the first time since 2022 that Moore finished with fewer than three interceptions.

The final name CBS floated was Trevon Diggs, the former Packers cornerback who was released by the Dallas Cowboys in the middle of last season and appeared in one game for Green Bay. Diggs once led the NFL with 11 interceptions in 2021 and made two straight Pro Bowls starting that year. A 2023 ACL injury has clearly changed his trajectory, but at 27, he remains a player worth a look.

Vanderbilts 2026 Hopes May Hinge On A Support System Fans Crave

Vanderbilts planning for 2026 is starting to take shape around the kind of support system every young quarterback hopes for. With freshman Jared Curtis set to lead the offense, the Commodores are making the run game a priority, leaning on a backfield that should have enough familiarity to help steady the transition while the staff works to build more balance around him.

The other piece is up front, where Vanderbilt has reloaded through the transfer portal and is counting on that reshaped line to give the offense a cleaner foundation. Offensive coordinator Tim Beck wants the unit to stay out of obvious passing downs and avoid the negative plays that can derail a drive, which makes the coming months feel less like a luxury and more like a necessity for a team trying to give its young passer a real chance. Jordan Rodgers Just Made Ole Miss Fans Rethink The 2026 QB Debate

Arch Mannings 2025 season turned into a real step forward after a rocky start, and he still finished with more than 3,100 passing yards and 26 touchdowns, enough to keep the conversation around him very much alive heading into next year. But ESPN analyst Jordan Rodgers has already pushed the discussion in a different direction, casting Ole Miss transfer Trinidad Chambliss as the quarterback he wants at the top of the 2026 board after a breakout season that put him squarely in the national picture.

Chambliss arrived at Ole Miss from Division II Ferris State and immediately produced like a player ready for a bigger stage, piling up nearly 4,000 passing yards and 22 touchdowns in 2025. He will also be operating in a new-look Ole Miss setup in 2026, with offensive personnel changes and a new playcaller in John David Baker after Charlie Weis Jr.'s departure, which only adds more intrigue to whether the Rebels can keep that momentum going. How Cade McConnell Became A Vanderbilt Anchor With Bigger Goals

Cade McConnell has gone from an offensive lineman searching for a foothold to one of Vanderbilts more reliable pieces up front, a transformation that has come over five seasons in Nashville. The fifth-year senior has settled into a steady starting role, and coach Clark Lea points to the experience and leadership he brings as a reason the Commodores view him as an important part of the lines foundation.

McConnells rise also has given him a bigger personal target, because he is no longer satisfied with just being dependable. He wants his play to reach All-SEC territory and keep him on track for a professional future, which says plenty about how far he has come since arriving from Minnesota and not seeing the field there.
