In a high-octane clash at Rupp Arena, the Kentucky Wildcats showcased their offensive prowess, shooting a blistering 59% from the field and 50% from three-point range to secure a 91-77 victory over the 25th-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores.
Vanderbilt, now 22-7 overall and 9-7 in the SEC, struggled with defensive lapses early on. The Wildcats, at 19-10 and 10-6 in the SEC, capitalized by hitting seven of their first nine shots and drilling seven of their first ten three-point attempts, racing to a commanding 34-18 lead.
Tyler Tanner was a bright spot for the Commodores, leading with 19 points, six assists, and two steals. He was supported by Jalen Washington with 16 points, Tyler Nickel with 13, AK Okereke with 12, and Duke Miles contributing 11 points and seven assists.
For Kentucky, Collin Chandler and Otega Oweh each poured in 23 points. Chandler was particularly lethal from beyond the arc, sinking six threes, five of which came in the first half, setting the tone for Kentucky’s explosive start. Denzel Aberdeen added 15 points, while Malachi Moreno chipped in with 11, giving the Wildcats four players in double figures.
Kentucky’s shooting performance was the best Vanderbilt has allowed this season, with the Wildcats’ 11 three-pointers marking a season high against the Commodores. Although Vanderbilt shot a respectable 52% from the field, their struggles from long range were evident, hitting just 7 of 28 from beyond the arc. Inside the arc, they found more success, going 23 of 30, but it wasn’t enough to keep pace.
Turnovers also hurt Vanderbilt, as their 11 miscues led to 17 points for Kentucky. The Wildcats made the most of their opportunities at the charity stripe, converting 20 of 25 free throws compared to Vanderbilt’s 10 of 11.
Vanderbilt looks to bounce back as they continue their season-ending road trip with a matchup against Ole Miss on Tuesday night. The game is set for an 8 p.m. tipoff on SEC Network+.
