Colorado’s summer recruiting surge could get another big boost on July 6, when four-star offensive lineman Dewey Young is set to make his college choice.
Young, a 6-4, 325-pound tackle from Central High in Kalamazoo, Michigan, has emerged as the player to watch after Colorado already opened July by landing three-star running back Kylan Bobo. Bobo, who had 27 total offers, picked the Buffaloes after turning down Arkansas, and now Colorado appears to be in position for another win with an SEC program in the mix.
According to national recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong of On3/Rivals, the Buffaloes are the team gaining momentum for Young. Vanderbilt is still involved, but Wiltfong said the edge currently belongs to Colorado.
"Colleague Allen Trieu and I have talked to various sources and the intel favors the Buffaloes," Wiltfong wrote.
Wiltfong pointed to a stronger NIL package and the energy around the program as factors in Young’s rise toward Boulder. If Colorado closes, Young would become the 20th verbal commitment in the Buffaloes’ 2027 class.
He would also arrive with serious pedigree. Young is ranked as the nation’s No. 10 overall tackle in the Rivals300 and is the seventh-ranked recruit in Michigan. At the moment, he would join fellow four-star tackle Li'Marcus Jones as the top-ranked name in Colorado’s 2027 group.
That class already includes some notable trench help. Colorado has four-star tackle Li'Marcus Jones at the top, three-star interior offensive lineman Jayin Talib - the nephew of former NFL Pro Bowl cornerback Aqib Talib - and three-star offensive lineman Coderro McDaniel, who was flipped from Ole Miss in June by assistant offensive line coach Gunnar White. McDaniel joins three-star Zaquan Linton as another future tackle option.
Deion Sanders has leaned on offensive line coach Andre Gurode in the push for Young, and landing him would give Gurode his highest-ranked recruit yet in the rankings era. It would also keep adding to a front that Colorado is clearly trying to rebuild after years of shaky play up front under Sanders, even while Shedeur Sanders was setting school passing records.
Colorado currently sits at No. 35 in the On3/Rivals team rankings and No. 42 in 247Sports’ rankings, and Young’s commitment could give both numbers a meaningful lift.
Young is scheduled to announce at 7 p.m. ET on July 6.

Allens track record at Iowa gives Vanderbilt reason to believe he can help in multiple spots, especially after he logged 33 tackles and 3.5 sacks over his last two seasons in Iowa City.
