Vancouver Canucks Shake Up Roster With Pierre-Olivier Joseph Activation

Pierre-Olivier Joseph's return from injury adds depth to the Canucks' defense as his future with the team hangs in the balance.

The Vancouver Canucks have activated Pierre-Olivier Joseph from the injured reserve, adding some depth to their defensive lineup. With Joseph back, the Canucks now have seven defensemen on their active roster, totaling 22 players.

Joseph, at 26 years old, has been sidelined for a few weeks due to an upper-body injury he sustained on March 2nd against the Dallas Stars. During his absence, Vancouver has been rolling with just six defensemen, making his return a welcome addition as the team wraps up a challenging 2025-26 season.

However, Joseph's future with the Canucks seems uncertain. As a pending restricted free agent, he might be eyeing opportunities with other teams. Vancouver, in the midst of a rebuild, is likely looking to inject more youth into their lineup, which could leave Joseph on the outside looking in.

This season, Joseph has primarily been used as a seventh defenseman. Even when healthy, he's seen limited action, appearing in only 24 games and tallying one goal and five points with an average of 13:18 on the ice per game.

Despite being ready to play, Joseph wasn't in the lineup against the St. Louis Blues tonight.

How the Canucks plan to use him for the remainder of the season remains a question. He doesn’t seem to provide a significant upgrade over the current starters, and at 26, he doesn’t quite fit the mold of a developing prospect.
