We’ve been piecing together this intriguing puzzle.
Last year, former Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes joined forces with five hockey stars for Oreo’s “Stay Playful for All” campaign. Alongside Zach Hyman, Willie Nylander, Nick Suzuki, Sarah Nurse, and Marie-Philip Poulin, Hughes helped distribute $200,000 in new hockey equipment grants to youth organizations across Canada.
Fast forward, and a lot has changed for Hughes since that January 2025 collaboration. The Canucks’ playoff aspirations fizzled, leading to departures of key figures like J.T.
Miller and ex-head coach Rick Tocchet. Vancouver's rough start this year resulted in Hughes being traded to Minnesota.
Despite his move to Minnesota, it seemed Hughes was set to continue with Oreo for the campaign’s second year. In January, he was listed among the returning ambassadors for “Stay Playful For All,” with the same endorsement deals and $200,000 in grants for Canadian youth hockey.
A promotional video even introduced him as a “Minnesota Wild defenceman.” But then, like a dunked Oreo, he vanished.
Social media buzzed with speculation when fans noticed Hughes had been edited out of all campaign materials on Oreo’s website. His dedicated section, complete with video and biography, was removed.
So, what’s the story?
We reached out to Oreo for clarification. Initially, they maintained Hughes was still involved.
However, when discrepancies in promotional content were highlighted, they promised to investigate further. As of now, we’re still waiting for an official response.
Regardless of his association with the cookie brand, Hughes seems to be thriving in Minnesota, playing for one of the NHL’s top teams. His stellar Olympic performance has also boosted his profile in American pop culture.
Hughes and Team USA faced some controversy over their reactions to Donald Trump’s jokes during their White House visit and the State of the Union address. Could this be the reason for Oreo’s decision? Only Oreo knows for sure.
While Jack Hughes’ missing puck mystery was solved, Quinn Hughes’ disappearance from Oreo’s campaign remains an unsolved enigma.
