Through 10 games, the 2026-27 Vancouver Canucks and last season’s team are telling very different stories, even if the scoreboard hasn’t been kind to either one.
This year’s club has stumbled to a 2-7-1 record, which is exactly what you’d expect from a team in a rebuild. The 2025-26 group, by contrast, opened at 5-5-0 and carried the “Win For Quinn” label as Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin worked to keep Quinn Hughes satisfied. That approach, as the source makes clear, was not the answer.
Even with Hughes gone, the 2026-27 Canucks have actually scored more at this point than last year’s team. Vancouver has put up 30 goals this season, compared with 28 through 10 games in 2025-26. But the defensive side has gone the other way in a big way: this year’s group has surrendered 45 goals, while last year’s team had allowed 31 at the same stage.
The shot numbers also tilt in favor of the previous team. The 2025-26 Canucks were averaging 25.6 shots per game, while this season’s club sits at 21.1.
Shots against tell a similar story, though the gap is smaller. Last year’s team was giving up 30.0 shots per game, compared with 32.7 for the 2026-27 group.
So where does that leave things? The current Canucks already have a built-in excuse, since they’re operating in an intentional rebuild.
Still, there’s a path for this team to surpass the 58 points posted in 2025-26. For now, though, they’ve got some ground to make up after collecting just five points in their first 10 games.

Canucks Blue Line Is Giving Fans Hope Amid More Lineup Uncertainty
The Canucks are still sorting through some moving parts up front, but there has at least been a steadier pulse around the roster thanks to a few encouraging performances. Elias Pettersson has looked strong lately, Tom Willander has also been making a positive impression, and the blue line in particular has started to give fans something tangible to feel good about even as the overall lineup picture remains unsettled.
Up front, Filip Chytils return from injured reserve has provided an immediate lift, with points in both of his first two games back. Vancouver has also continued to adjust its personnel after Aatu Rtys departure, a reminder that the roster is still very much in flux.
