Reports suggest that the Canucks and the City of Vancouver are nearing an agreement to establish this facility at the Britannia Rink site, conveniently located just a short drive from their main venue, Rogers Arena. This new hub is set to feature cutting-edge amenities, including a state-of-the-art gym, off-ice training areas, a lounge, locker rooms, and office space for city use.
The rink itself received a major upgrade in 2025 and has been a community staple since the 1970s. While there's no official word yet on community access, it's worth noting that many NHL teams, like the Seattle Kraken, often share their practice facilities with the public.
Currently, the site hosts only one rink, whereas many NHL teams boast multiple ice sheets in their training centers. This has been a challenge for the Canucks, who have relied on Rogers Arena for practice when it's available.
However, scheduling conflicts due to concerts and events often push them to the University of British Columbia's rinks. At UBC, the team faces limitations, lacking a permanent locker room and having to compete for ice time with university teams, youth hockey, and other programs.
The absence of a dedicated practice facility has been a point of frustration for both current and former players. Former Canucks goalie Arturs Silovs, now with the Pittsburgh Penguins, highlighted the benefits of having a permanent practice space.
"In Vancouver, we were always at UBC. Here, you have your own locker room, and you don't have to constantly move your gear.
It’s a huge advantage for team development."
