Canucks Linked to Trade Talks as Tyler Myers Could Be on the Move

Amidst swirling trade rumors around the Vancouver Canucks, veteran defenseman Tyler Myers emerges as a potential key move before the NHL Trade Deadline.

Tyler Myers' name has been surprisingly absent from Vancouver Canucks trade rumors, but that might be changing. Myers, a seasoned defenseman with a young family settled in British Columbia, seemed like a fixture in the Canucks' plans.

His contract, a three-year deal worth $3 million annually signed before the 2024-25 season, includes a full no-move clause. It's no surprise that many expected him to stay put in Vancouver.

While other Canucks veterans like Evander Kane, Teddy Blueger, Conor Garland, Jake DeBrusk, and Elias Pettersson have been the center of trade chatter, Myers has flown under the radar-until now. ESPN and NHL Network insider Kevin Weekes recently stirred the pot with a report on social media, stating that the Canucks are receiving plenty of calls about Myers and that a move could be imminent.

At 36, Myers is in his seventh season with the Canucks. After initially joining the team in 2019 with a five-year, $30 million contract, he renewed his commitment to Vancouver in 2024, securing a three-year extension.

Under coach Rick Tocchet, Myers experienced a resurgence, becoming a reliable top-four defenseman capable of handling tough minutes. However, this season has been challenging for him, both offensively and defensively.

In 57 games, Myers has recorded one goal, eight assists, and a plus-minus rating of -25.

As the NHL Trade Deadline approaches on March 6th, the possibility of Myers waiving his no-move clause for the right opportunity adds an intriguing dimension to the Canucks' strategy. Whether he stays or goes, Myers' situation will be a key storyline to watch in the coming days.
